AIBU to be cross about nits?

Now, in my line of work and my partner's, nits are a sort of occupational hazard, and we are vigilant about the little buggers and do regular gorilla style grooming sessions to check for infestation. However, in holidays, like the half term we've just had, we become more nonchalent about the situation.

I DID NOT HAVE NITS ON WEDNESDAY. I know, cos I went to have my hair cut and always get my partner to check before this rare event due to potential humiliation and screaming by hair dresser.

Baby sat my friend's daughter Thursday. Long, waist length tresses loose all over the place. NOW I HAVE JUST HAD TO TREAT HAIR for second time at this time of night due to f8cking lice. My friend rang me earlier. I mentioned the nit outbreak. She says "Oh, I know it's an arse isn't it? Have been treating X's hair for two weeks now and still not got rid of them". And, breathe.

Pissed off with it, also cos the constant hair do -ing is underlining how much I hate my new hair cut! Do think she could have tied her daughter's hair up in plaits/warned me she had head lice/both, maybe?

Well if she is like about them then she is probably so used to having them that it didnt cross her mind. If went mad everytime my lot got them I would be in a constant state of anger!

Use Nitmix. Use it in the last rinse when you don't have lice and spray every day as a preventative and if/when you get them, use the combing Nitmix to comb them out more easily and you'll get many, many more out than with anything else.

Oh and it's all natural, no chemicals.

Oh, thanks solo - I have been spraying with tea tree up til now - I've read conflicting advice about it - but seems to have worked ( or I've been lucky) as have only had nits twice in lots of years asscociating with lice ridden children teaching! I'll try your method.
I know what you mean bogeyface - but her daughter has hair down to her waist, which was LOOSE and she KNEW she had nits!

YANBU i cannot stand the little feckers but i cannot STAND the feckers who let their kids run around feeling uncomfortable and embarassed by the fact they have head lice. my daughter seems to be a lice magnet, we take to combing her hair every day after school with a nitty gritty, at least 3 times a week i will find a live adult minger walking around, no eggs therefore she has picked it up from some other minger, so i treat her, comb her, she goes to school nitty free, comes home, i comb, oh whats this, an adult lice. i have almost come to blows with the school over it. i mean lets all send our husband and wives to work with frikkin syphillis.

Well, I was a bit worried when I noticed her little girl scratching her head - just thought - "Nah - she wouldn't have sent her with her hair loose like that if she had nits" ! Grrr - however, I just read a thread about someone in NZ who had survived the earthquake and was scared, so I feel a bit guilty about nit anger now!

i find the nitty gritty comb to be much better than any of the treatments, it gets the live scummers and the eggs too.

The Nitmix changes how your head/hair smells so that lice don't smell a human host iyswim? I spray Dd every morning after plaiting her hair for nursery. ugh had to shave sons head last night,got rid of them and at some point over the half term he has got them again,but sil said he dd had tons of eggs the other day so think he may have got them off her,i go through their hairall the time but someone in his class seems to have them all the time and son keeps getting them,which then he gives them to his brothers.

lucky i have boys so can keep hair short,sons hair was longer and suited him but got so fed up i trimmed it really short :(

Why oh why dont all the parents get together and agree to treat their DC every weekend.
Of course I do realise that it is difficuilt to enforce, but it would be so easy wouldnt it?

Combing is nigh impossible to get all nits and eggs out,it just takes 1 nit or egg left and it starts all over again. Personally I blame the Nitty Gritty comb,it's waaaaaay over hyped.

Yeah it's a great comb but unless you scrape all your kids head raw for an hour every night you will leave eggs,lice unchecked particularly newly hatched lice which are almost invisible to the eye.

Kids should be sent home and treated with a suffocating solution period. Nobody cares and nobody needs to know. As a parent I'd welcome any one of my kids being sent home if it was a widespread policy.

I agree that wet combing isnt effective enough to use as a treatment. It is good as a preventative in that if the kids have picked up an odd one during the day then a good comb with the Nitty Gritty can stop them taking hold, but once they have laid eggs then nothing but a bug busting with Hedrin will sort it out.

Hedrin is a silicon based product that doesnt contain pesticides, it suffocates the lice and therefore is very unlikely to affect your child.

I use the GHD's on DD's waist length, thick, curly hair whenever a letter comes home.....and I add pure tea tree oil to our shampoo and conditioners. I also make a homemade spray using lavender and tea tree oil, which I spray in her hair every couple of days. It is always tid back or plaited for school too.

Wish everyone would tie their long haired children's hair back for school - but some people seem to like the Rapunsel look way to much.

My new AIBU is that, having spent so much time last night doing new (rubbish, short, I hate it, and I look like something from the House of Eliot)hair last night, I just couldn't be arsed to wash/style it tonight and intend to rock up at work looking like a freak tomorrow, as it's too short to tie back convincingly now, and I'm relying on the GHDs to make it almost passable in the morning?
