AIBU?

Stupid columnist spouting ignorant rubbish!

MORNING ALL!

I am boiling with rage today! (WHAT'S NEW? HA HA)Angry Wink

Stupid, ignorant columnist CAROLE MALONE (I can't link to it because you have to pay for the news of the world website on Sundays) has written an article for her column saying that:
(not all direct quotes but to give you an idea)
she can 'understand why people are upset', but that 'maybe some bereaved mums would kidnap another persons child'

Carole Malone is a woman who does not have children

She also (falsely) stated that the cot death charity has not condemned the storyline when they have totally distanced themselves from it

And that in some of the 9,000 plus complaints some of those complaining might be mothers who have lost babies to cot death

You think Carole?

She also slates Samamtha Janus for her private life and even states it is not relevant but has mentioned it anyway (Samantha Janus cheated on her first hubby and her second hubby was married when they met - just stating what she has said, why this needs to be mentioned I do not know)

She cannot grasp that this affects Samantha Janus because she is a mother

And she ends with 'it isn't real life... it's a soap opera!'

Oh that's ok then

Stupid, ignorant woman who has no idea what she is talking about!

I have sent her an email saying that as she is not a mum she doesn't know what she is talking about and have asked her to talk to bereaved mums before she writes ignorant crap

If you feel the same you can email her at
[email protected]

Rant over!

Who agrees and if you don't would be interested to hear your views!

I know some of you don't get all the fuss and that is your right and that has been said in other threads so it is not about that, but more about how can she write like she knows what she is on about when she doesn't have a bleeding clue!?

Enjoy your Sunday Ladies! Grin

So she's not allowed her opinions because she's not a Mum?

Report
MargaretGraceBondfield · 09/01/2011 10:49

I read a bit in the DM the other day that slated Samantha's private life, what has that got to do with anything?

Report
LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 09/01/2011 10:49

She is allowed her opinon just kind everyone else.

Report
yama · 09/01/2011 10:50

I wouldn't read News of the Screws and I certainly wouldn't read Carol Malone.

Report
MsKLo · 09/01/2011 10:50

no, its not that mutznutz

but she seems - to me - to be talking on behalf of bereaved mums in a way

I just didn't like her sensationalist piece, some will think it is fine, I don't

I meant she is not a mum so she can't understand the feelings, the fears, the worries a mum has for her children

hope that makes sense!

Is 'to condemn' the same as 'to distance themselves from'?

I don't like Carole Malone or any other tabloid hacks and I don't care what they say about anything as it's done for sensationalist purposes, nothing whatsoever to do with journalism.

I expect tabloids to jump on the bandwagon of the EastEnders storyline... zeleb news must be in short supply.

That said, I wouldn't go so far as to say that you have to be a 'mum' to know all the 'mum' issues that have to be faced. Anybody can put themselves in somebody elses shoes and think how they might feel in similar circumstances.

One thing I'm definitely taking umbrage about is the constant reference to 'bereaved mums' rather than 'beareaved parents'. It must be the most shattering experience for the woman's partner also. :(

mutznutz · 09/01/2011 10:52

It does make sense when you put it like that, but isn't that what journalists do in these tabloid newspapers. Doesn't make it ok, but it's unsurprising.

No, she's not allowed an opinion because she's an idiot.

I knew this would be about Carol Malone, I don't know why but DH buys the NOTW and I always read her articles just to wind myself up.

MsKLo · 09/01/2011 10:54

yep, I know News of the World Blush

I like the magazine you get with it and it has a free makeup offer!

still

Blush

yes of course she is entitled to her opinion, I didn't say she wasn't, I just don't like her opinion and she has said cot death charity is fine with the story and they are not and she had a go at Samantha Janus for her private life and it is not relevant - she said she 'could not care less about her feelings' which, if she were a mother, she would understand better why Sam had a problem with this story and she also slated Sam for having 'no track record on the moral front' which was nasty and not called for and takes aways from why Sam was bothered by this story

yes, i know mutznutz

glad i made myself sort of clear! i know it is what columnists do but she seems to have a habit of writing from a mother's point of view when she has no fucking clue!

ha ha theevildead that you knew it would be her! she can write some good stuff but some shite too!

MsKLo · 09/01/2011 10:59

yes, sorry lyingwitch of course you are right, it is bereaved parents, I think because I have been talking to bereaved mums about this, I put that

It just gets me that she rights like she knows what it is like to be a mum, if she was, she would have understood why Samantha Janus had a problem with this story and not referred to her private life that was irrelevant

I did not mean to say she can't comment because she is not a mum - i meant she can't have the same understanding and I think her article would have been different had she been a mum and I doubt she has spoken to bereaved mums and dads

You don't have to be a mum to understand love and grief. Everybody has suffered loss as some point and can empathize with bereaved parents

A friend on mine suffered a stillbirth at 42 weeks, I don't think I was anymore understanding than I would have been if I didn't have kids. I was obviously devastated for her an would have been whatever my own situation.

Everyone has the right to an opinion over a soap opera storyline and their personal circumstances do not make it any more or less valid

MsKLo · 09/01/2011 11:01

but it is different if you are a mum, you think differently

everything changes

I haven't actually read anything "good" from her.. almost all of it makes me want to slap her!

(also I knew it was about her, even though I haven't read today's masterpiece yet!)

She can be annoying, and was today, especially the bit on Samantha Janus and her private life

I like Sam and hate what they did to her character and that she is leaving!

Bloody hell. British journalism would implode if columnists were disbarred from writing just because their opinions are uninformed and stupid.

I have absolutely no idea about this particular issue. It's gone straight over my head. But I am following the example set by CM et al, and proffering my uniformed tuppence worth.

For a variety of reasons, British journalism now seems to be a place where the credentials that often make you the crazy lady on the bus, that no-one wants to sit next to, or the unpopular girl at school, whose desk is carefully placed in the corridor before every lesson, are magically transmuted into the criteria for earning a very comfortable wage.

Good for CM! She can now afford, no doubt, to buy the friends she didn't have at school. Bless her.

MrsKLo - you are v U for reading NoW. My mother says that when she was little, her priest said it was typed in hell by the devil himself.

Love to think of CM hiding her little cloven hooves in expensive shoes, as she trots perkily to Islington Waitrose. Though how does she manage her pallie's keyboard?

I am shocked to the core that a publication such as the News of the World, known for it's integrity and balanced opinions would print such an article.

NOTW has gone down seriously in my estimation now!!!!

"lappy" not "pallie". Heavens, my little cloven hooves were getting all in a twiddle there.

I'm not a mum, so I wouldn't presume to have a clue what it feels like to lose a child. My husband lost his mum 2 years ago and was devastated, but just because i have seen it from an outside persepective I wouldn't think I could understand what it feels like to lose a much loved parent.

This isn't the same as when people bitch about super nanny giving advice on child rearing whilst not being a mum. She's a trained person who CAN Look after children and her not being a mum isn't relevant. But Carol Malone not undersstanding what emotions someone feels when they lose a child woudl be affected by not having a child.

1] News of the world is fit for wiping arse on and nothing else

2] EE fucked up, but it is a soap and they do make a drama out of a crisis

3] I have a friend who ended up in care after his mother lost her second child and helped herself to one from a pram outside a shop, so yes it can happen no matter how much people want to say it does not

4] The people who have been abusing the actress who plays the role are a bunch of morons, she is playing a part she has not really stolen a baby.

SOrry animula
You are right, reading the notw is naughty
I like the mag and hubby reads the sports pages (although he refuses to read any other bit of it, he jyst takes the sport bit, lol)

Like I said, of course she can have an opinion without being a mum, she jest seems to write like she knows how mums feel!
