What a knob that guy is..! What does he suggest, that instead of doing a weekly shop hi swife should go to the coop every day and by that day's food... for the family to live of almost out of date fruit and veg and a questionable chicken pie?!

Who wants to shop every day?

What's wrong with Ocado anyway?

have you ever shopped in a co op?

they are shit in the main, which is a shame!

I have to disagree with reikizen, we have a local coop and although we mainly do our weekly shopping at a larger store, the coop is great for when we can't be bothered to go and do a big shop and we've run out of everything else.

I did do a daily shop when I was on mat leave at the coop, but it was mainly an excuse to get me and dd out of the house and a nice walk down to the village

I have one 2 minutes down the road and I too pop in there for various bits and bobs when we run out... but if my DP suggested I did all our shopping there IN PLACE of a big shop I'd kick him.
That stupid man needs to get himself on line to do the shopping himself.

Why does it take him AND his wife and kids to all go to do the big shop anyway, cloging up the aisles. Stupid arse.

I thought it was going to be an ad for online shopping

but no, it was an ad for shopping every day at the coop which surely isn't as financially astute as meal planning etc. and buying in one go?

I don't like the ad either

If my DH had said all these things to me I would have been sending for the men in white coats, plus we have a coop near us and it is alright for bread, milk etc but not for a big weekly shop.

They are building a Co-op opposite our road, no more 2 mile walks or defrosting the car for a bottle of wine milk. Your right about the advert though ugh. What a gimp.

I havn't seen the add buthave to say our Co-Op is fab. Its quite large but not mega store proportions is in the main quite calm so long as you avoid Thursday Friday and Saturday mornings, and everyone knows you

(It isnt none of these 'local' ones)

Stupid commercial but I'm a big fan of our local Coop! I couldn't do a weeks worth of shopping in there, but have done several days worth if we've been to busy to get to a supermarket.

I haven't seen the advert, but I have two Co-Ops nearby and find them eye-wateringly overpriced. It's ok if you just want a couple of things urgently, but I dread to imagine that mark-up on everything in my weekly shop!

That said, if you go in at about 9.30pm there's always loads of meat with 75% off which fills my freezer up nicely.

We have a very good COOP locally, far better quality than the local Waitrose, and lower prices. I do virtually all my shopping there as I don't drive. And comparing expenditure at various times of my life I have come to the conclusion that doing big shops is not very economical: you tend to buy more than you need and end up throwing food away and buying little extras you don't really need as you are spending so much anyway you don't really notice it. Ime the most economical way of shopping is every 3 days or so; that way the bill is still small enough to make any unnecessary items stand out like a sore thumb.

I thought exactly the same when i saw that advert. It makes no sense, they're saying he wants to spend more time with his family, so how is going shopping every day going to help with that? And you'd definitely spend more that way. Online shopping is the best thing since sliced bread for me. I'd gladly pay anyone the cost of online delivery (I'd be willing to pay double) if it saves me the 2 hours trekking around a supermarket going insane with the kids in tow.

Another thing that always annoys me about Co-Op ads is that 'good' does NOT rhyme with 'food'!

DilysPrice · 06/01/2011 17:01

I thought it was going to be an advert for Ocado, which would make sense, but you're right, it makes no sense as an advert for Co-op.

We have a Co-op in our village and although I couldn't do my weekly shopping there it is very handy. The fruit and veg is fine....I don't mind when it's 'almost' out of date because then it's reduced to clear and I get grapes for 30p andcherries for 50p!
I like the Fair Trade chocolate and cakes. Our Co-op even has an instore bakery and there's always plenty of fresh bread.

Some people are just too snobby!!

Co-op sticky toffee pudding is nice.

My mum didnt drive, neither does my MIL, and both used to do a daily shop.. buying up special offers, prefering daily fresh bread. Neither of them did/do a weekly shop as such.

Going shopping daily can save money, so long as you just buy what you need. I find if I do a big shop a lot of things get added that I wouldnt have got if I had popped in for a days worth, and also things get left and thrown away too.

blindassasin · 06/01/2011 17:07

Guilty I'm afraid!

ha-ha no, it's not snobbery, it's being practical. My partner and I both work full time and have 2 kids... the very thought of having to factor in going to the coop every day is making my body skake.

It made me want to go and get my nails done, but they don't do that at the Co-op.

The Ocado comment was a joke. I use sainsburys online and feed my family for about £180 a month. I always cook from fresh.

I reackon his wife ants to go to the shop to escape him... maybe she does her shopping on line and then uses these big 'shopping trips' as a cover for an affair with a less twatish man...?
