Someone on MN has my book, and I have no idea who!

I was part of a book club back end of 2008 and all was going well until this time last year when I never received another book despite having sent mine on.

I had bumped the original thread several times but no one replied.

Where's my book?! <throws tantrum>

It's The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.

Bumping for you. I thought I might have it as our book club disintegrated as well but its not.

Hope you get it back smile

Thanks! I only remember two people from the group and they definitely don't have it, there were 12 of us altogether and the OP appears to have either namechanged or left confused

I think after 2 years you will have to suck it up really. Its a pain but ho hum.

Oooo cheers for that! We'll definitely be using that to get other books off too grin

The other site to check for another copy would be GreenMetropolis.com. But I like the look of the Awesome Books site too!

They are also selling it on 'market place' on amazon for £2.80 p+p and cost 1p to buy. There is also a couple for £2.75 and free p+p. I love the market place!!

upahill Thu 06-Jan-11 11:03:09

I forgot to put the link in!

books from the market place

I'd chalk it up to experience and buy another copy - great book btw!

I thought this thread was going to be about how annoying it is when you lend someone one of your favourite books and they never give it back. Or you ask them for it repeatedly and they swear they'll bring it but never do. Or you lend it out and can't remember which of your bloody
thieving friends or relatives has it.

As you can see I am harbouring a lot of resentment. Perhaps I need help? wink

I am currently mouring the loss of Roddy Doyle's Paula Spencer (the follow up to The Woman who Walked into Doors), Malcolm Gladwell's Blink, Mark Haddon's A Spot of Bother and another brilliant book about living in the slums of Pakistan (annoyingly I can't remember the author, title or who has it). I know noone on MN has them, but still.... Grrrrr.

upahill Thu 06-Jan-11 11:08:02

Ahhh Twinkle this is why I never lend books, dvd's or any of my personal kit out EVER!

Once I have finished with stuff I am happy to pass it on or give it to a charity shop or anything but I will not lend anything that I want to keep.
(seriously)

I'm starting to think that books are like cats, no-one ever really owns them they just flit around from person to person.

There are so many books I used to have that I don't anymore. Mind you I also have LOADS of books I haven't bought so it all balances out in the end I think.

TwinklePants Thu 06-Jan-11 11:14:35

Upahill I think you're probably v.wise to do that - I also lose a lot of my DVDs this way.

The thing is that when I read a really great book I want to share it around, but because I keep all of my books and can read my favourites upwards of 20 times I probably shouldn't - I hardly ever get them back. I don't see why I should have to buy them twice just because I have generously lent them out and some fecker thinks they'll keep them.

[goes to lie down in a darkened room]

juneybean Thu 06-Jan-11 12:07:38

I'm like you TinklePants I love reading things more than once and generally keep all my books.

Fortunately I chose a book for the book club that I had two copies of so not a huge loss, but annoying all the same!

TwinklePants Thu 06-Jan-11 12:10:30

Agreed. And lol at "TinklePants" - I feel a namechange coming on wink

OTheHugeManatee Thu 06-Jan-11 12:10:51

I've long since realised that I shouldn't lend my books if I ever want to see them again. I've lost a good few hundred quid's worth of lovely books that way.

TwinklePants I feel your pain.

juneybean Thu 06-Jan-11 12:21:27

Haha sorry! grin

plupervert Thu 06-Jan-11 13:56:36

You know, it is possible to message someone by an old username, and it gets through, if the person is still registered on MN.

I know how you feel about specific copies of books.

Thanks for the book site recommendations, everyone!

juneybean Thu 06-Jan-11 14:43:51

Ooo there were 12 of us and I have no idea who would have it short of messaging all 11 of them!

But if I get desperate I'll do that! :D

plupervert Thu 06-Jan-11 19:46:26

Well only 9 to go, as you said you were 12 (-1 for you), and 2 others definitely didn't have it.

Not so unmanageable, but glad you are not seething with resentment (well, not from the tone of your posts)!
