To put DDs in a bunk-bed?

DDs are 6 and 2.10. They currently hav a room each but woring from home I need an office...they get on very well and DD2 has been in a toddler bed for a year now.

I know it could be nigtmare with them messing around and I am also thinking that little DD could fall off the top bunk if she climbs up there whilst they're in the room alone...so aibu?

Has anyone else put a child that young in with a sibling and especialy in bunkbeds? If IANBU can anyone reccomend good bunks?

i have to admit that it would concern me about the little one climbing up and potentially falling off. she is still quite small

ds1 has a mid-sleeper and if his younger siblings are upstairs i do try and be up there just in case they climb up

i'm not sure what age i would be happy with it though.

DS1 and DS2 are 7 and 3 and have been in bunk beds since DS2 went into a bed when he turned 2. They don't have to share a room but wanted to. THere haven't been any problems with DS2 trying to climb up to the top bunk at all. He knows the bottom bed is his and is happy to stay in it.

kids will always find things to climb up, a bunk bed is probably one of the safest things..

No experience myself but a friend has her two DDs in bunk beds who are about 2.6 and 7. They seem fine although the little one does sometimes wake the older one in the night.

i guess it depends on your kids! ds2 and ds3 are daredevils and ds3 if he gets up on the mid-sleeper just runs around like a loon.

the worst either of them has done so far is to leap about and whack their head on the end of the bed. but i dread them going over the side!

my two eldest sisters were in bunk beds from quite a young age. when she was 10 my eldest fell off the top bunk and broke her arm, but the attitude in our family is "that'll teach ya"

i don't think you are being unreasonable.

Mine want to share too...glad to hear about all the others who are younger than DD and managing fine though.

Little bit worried about the potential messing around factor that will go with sharing...but I need the blinking room!

my boys have had bunk beds since my twins were 2,they were in bottom bunk, older 2 in the top beds, they were fine, only thing i had to do was put bed sides on for the twins,as the drop to the floor was more than what the cot bed was and didnt want then rolling out.

My DD2 went into a bunk bed with her big sister at 13 months. We bought bunk beds with a trundle bed underneath, and pulled that out at night, so if she did fall out she only ever fell onto another bed.

We didn't let her climb the stairs, and as a relatively obedient girl, she just didn't. It was never a problem for us.

As for night time, if one child is being naughty / playing up, then the 'good' one gets to sleep in mummy's bed (and then put back into their own when we go to bed). This usually knocks most problems on the head, and as sleeping in mummy's bed is a bit of a treat, they don't mind.

My girls have chosen to share up until now and it is lovely. The only downsides is at the weekends, we do ten to hear which ever child wakes up first asking the other child to get up and play with them. That has been our biggest problem. My eldest (now 7) has asked for her own room now for the first time ever, and we're going to do that in the summer, but I'm a bit sad about it - I quite liked them sharing!

Could you get a lower height cabin bed that fits a toddler bed underneath at right angles?

DS1(4.8) & DS2 (2.8) have been in bunks since DS2 turned 2 with no problems. We have got these bunks www.sleeplandbeds.co.uk/Joseph-White-Bunk-Beds - not sure where we got them from though as we shopped around online for a good deal. I liked them as the bottom bunk is quite low and the ladder is angled which makes it easier for DS to get up and down. You can also get drawers to go underneath!

Not had any problems with them sharing until Christmas when DS2 got excited and climbed up to wake up DS1!!

My friend put her 2 in bunk beds when they were 22 months and 4.3 years, the little one would climb up on the top bunk, but used to call for help to get down.
