According to our council website Thursday collections were rescheduled for today due to BHs. We haven't had a collection since 2 weeks ago when we had a collection on the Thursday and Friday of the previous 3 weeks' worth of rubbish, delayed due to snow etc Hmm. It will soon be dark and the refuse site will close so aibu to think they may still turn up.

We had our first bin collection on Wednesday 29th. The collection prior to that was the end of November!

Ours is due to be collected next Wednesday and they had better come as, due to snow, they will not have been for 4 weeks! DH has taken cardboard to the recycling centre but bins are more than full and it's disgusting.

Im still hoping in vain ours will be collected, we are lucky enough to still have weekly collections, or would be if they actually came every week! in the last 4 weeks they've come once....

Our rubbish is no problem, we hardly have any thanks to compost heaps, cats, chickens and recycling - but the recycling ...! It's only a monthly collection for bottles, cans and plastic (we live in the sticks), our recycling bin is always full for the normal collection, and they have missed two now. Which I totally understand due to the ice and snow - last time the postie ventured here he had to be towed out by tractor. Luckily it is all much cleaner than "normal" rubbish.

Old raver - why don't you take a bag to the skip yourself?? Same with recycling - there seems to be a recycling centre at every supermarket these days - why not bring it there yourself???

As I said in my post..... I did contact the council and was assured that yes the binmen were on their way and on schedule as usualso didnt think (though would of fitted it in on my busy Christmas Eve that involved working then doing a 40 mile trip to the nearest city) I would actually need to.

Had I been told "yes we are off schedule" I would have done the 20 mile round trip to the tip....

Does admit to not being fit to drive at any point over the holidays to risk going out in the car

Ours isn't due to be collected until the 3rd Jan although I don't think half the street realised and they put their bins out today. Wonder how long until the cats shred those bin bags! Grin

Crikey I forget some places still have bags (friend lives in Brum and they have bags. While our 6 various bins/recycling boxes look untidy I'm hoping they are cat proof

i was gutted today as i thought they came, saw the lorry and everything, only to discover they were here for the recycling bin, which yes it was overflowing from all the bottles and choc boxes wrapping paper and toy boxes i didnt mind it so much as it doesnt smell - and they havent missed a single collection for it!

Finally had a collection today after about 4 weeks due to snow, Xmas etc.
Whilst I appreciate that they couldn't collect during the bad weather what exactly were the binmen doing during that time? (About 2 weeks of snow disruption over here). IMO They SHOULD have been clearing the pavements and roads as they are council employees. Does anyone know what they have been doing?

Last collection here was 8 Dec and this week should be Thursday - getting very impatient! At least we were able to leave dd's present wrappings at mil's house!

i have some sympathy but am also wondering if people could generate a bit less for landfill - sure I wont be popular but we've only just filled a bin after one month; perhaps a small fire in the garden could deal with some of the paper (carbon neutral)

Report
catfunt · 07/01/2011 23:15

well ours wasnt emptied again today, so in the last 6 weeks, our weekly collection has happened twice!
Id imagine theyll use todays snow as an excuse but since every other vehicle managed (including a fire engine today) then surely the bin lorry can manage!

Mrspercival, burning isnt an option for us as we dont have a garden! we do have a separate recycling collection fortnightly which has been taken, but with 5 in a household the wheely bin does fill up too...
