I am very Xmas Envy - I have a breadmaker - a fabby Pansonic, but I've lost the paddle and paying stupid money for a replacement just feels wrong.

Nooooo!!! I love my bread maker - rarely buy bread these days and just bake my own. The ready mixes are great and so easy. Also don't find myself throwing away mouldy bread as I have done with shop bought stuff.

Enjoy :)

How's the first loaf?

(I'd be excited too, I love fresh bread).

Mmmm- how is it?

Am doing a crusty granary loaf to go with homemade soup when my cousin drops in later this week.

YANBU.... But a tip from someone that's had one for years. Make your bread the night before and leave it to cool. Next morning it'll still be fresh as a daisy BUT you'll be able to cut it. Still-warm bread is impossible to slice. Xmas Smile

Have got a breadmaker for the first time this year from Lidl. Only cost ÂŁ25! Fantastic. Have not bought any loaves since then. You do have to be quite disciplined as it takes just over 3 hours to bake and, as Chil said, is best cooked night before to be cut in the morning. Enjoy!

I got a breadmaker for Christmas from MIL and SIL (because I mentioned that a friend had one and because I like cooking, nothing sinister!!)

It has a quick loaf button, which takes 58 minutes!!! Came out a bit stodgy but perfectly edible and made us a nice breakfast Xmas Grin

I can't wait to check out the jam setting when I finally get home from visiting friends [childish grin]

YANBU. Got one for my DP and he set it to bake overnight. Woke this morning to the smell of fresh bread. Gorgeous, with my mum's homemade raspberry jam.

My house smells of fresh bread now, Menagerie! I finally got home from visiting friends and immediately put it on, although I had to use normal flour instead of bread flour. Now I am itching for the Saturday market so I can get some cheap fruit and make jam. Americans eat Grape Jelly, so I might try that...

Lovely. Our house has smelled good all day, and DP is like a child, rootling round in the bags of bread mixes the kids bought him, deciding what to make next.

Own jam too? That's impressive. I leave that to my mum...

I'm going to attempt a panettone in the breadmaker later this week using this recipe

okay i am normally ALL ABOUT the breadmaker love but dh recently started doing hte new york times no knead bread and it is AMAZING. chewy and crusty and oddly, less effort than loading out the machine. maybe you should google, purplepij, it might make you v happy until you find a paddle on ebay?

I love love love my breadmaker!
I use the dough function, then take it out and cook it in the oven. Makes for a softer crust!
Yum!!
Got recipe books from the library and have never looked back.
DH claims to hate shop bought stuff now, except rye bread and I can't get the flour for that so have to allow it.

Have to go put some on now, I just have no choice!

Ooh and pizza dough mad in it is great, and rolls using a bread mix. I always find they go further cause we en up cutting such thick slices with the bread.

My parents gave me their panasonic one about 3 Christmases ago. I have no bought a loaf since :)

Its fabulous. A lot of the time I make dough on the pizza setting and then bake it in the oven which gives lovely bread rolls in around an hour. Pitta bread is great, pizza bases are great (I use garlic salt instead of ordinary salt) and foccacia goes down particlularly well with DSs. Oooh, cheese bread, cinnamon and raisin bread... the list is endless!

I don't buy packet mixes though. Its far better to make up your own.
