I thought David Beckhams tears were for himslf....what has he to cry about. (I think his Mrs has plenty)

I dont really get the vitriol against David Beckham. He looked genuinely touched last night and judging by the length of his standing ovation, that others agreed with his award. I thought it was lovely that his boys were there to share it although felt sorry that they had to sit through 2 hours of what to them must have been fairly tedious, but still, their dad is an icon to many and I;m sure they are very proud of him.

Perhaps when you receive a lifetimes achievement award you may feel slightly humbled too.

I dont like the humble pose (we all act in public)

I dont hate Becks...I find he strikes an uninteresting pose.
Not excting on the pitch like Best, Ronaldo, Mary Donna or some others.

Just good at routine things through hours of practice.

I do feel sorry for Posh because she looks haunted in front of the camera.

I don't feel that strongly about the tears. But the hair. My God - what has the man done to himself?

I agree about the tedium the boys went through. Was picturing my two DSs at an event like that. Not a pretty picture

Are people with money not allowed to have emotions and feelings then?

Is it all rich people, or just men in particular? Or even just David beckham?

he is married to an ironing board, that make any man cry surely.

Also - regarding the boys. Up til fairly recently, they've had their faces smudged out in celebrity mags (which I never buy, oh no). Wonder what made them decide to de smudge - or is it only on TV they let them be seen?

At exactly what income level do you expect men stop shedding tears of pride?

Does the same logic mean that someone who remembered how to spell their name in order to sign on is entitled to blub but another on fulfilling a lifetimes ambition to reach the top of their profession should just get on with things?

Rich people should have a bit more decorum. I hate them for being so human.

Look Hul, Beckham manages the media well to his own advantage for much of the time.
(But they tend to savage you in the end.)

In a recession most sensible rich people keep a low profile...Cos it can look indecent flashing your wealth in front of the poor. Lux Logan has learned her lesson

We as a society cultivate rich and poor...
Those at the top of as money mountain need to watch their public behaviour)

that is my rationalisation. Here endeth the first lesson. Please leave quietly and dont scare the horses

Yes. He is rich. That is the beginning and ending of his substance. He should have paid for that emotionectomy ages ago.
He should watch how he behaves in public lest mad bints on the Internet judge him. Because that would be crushing.

Furry

see this as a debate about society in general rather than just a moneybags footie player. (who lives and plays abroad.)

all debates fires by individuals need to be broadened out....

cheers. Almost a charity...often hilarity.

Oh I thought the tears were from the pressure of having to string more than two sentences together without forty-five 'errrms'

Hello Gabby Smile

I actually quite like pigeons. Although I struggle with the stumpy-footed ones, I find them a pleasant addition to city parks.

What do you think?

I thought I was widening it out? Oh well nevermind, I would cry about this but I currently have well over £20 in loose change in my purse so fear I'm probably too rich for it to be the done thing.

There was a lovely pigeon at the building in which I used to work. He only had one foot. But oddly which foot he had kept changing. It couldn't have been different pigeons. He was the only one called Ralph.

pagwatch...you too like to narrow debate to what you are comfortable with

Broaden it out...spread your wings..Dont let the buggers get you down

ON TEARS...every entertainers knows that blubbing goes down well on TV (producers love it) I think women do it more genuinely than men

Men like to pretend they have no emotions.Stick their chests out and say I have the biggest todger in the street...

I like to get behind the facade of public personalities...and see what really makes them tick Does Becks intend to come back home and do a bit of snow shovelling?

tethers pigeons often try to commit suicide in front of my buggy. I have dodged them up to now

I believe Becham breeds pigeons in his back bedroom...

I do get what you are saying. Society does put too much store on wealth and celebrity. Footballers earn far too much. That's pretty uncontroversial, I think.

However Beckham is entitled to feel pride at his talent and achievements, and to express that. I think it is genuinely-felt emotion

But the hair though!!!

pag - we saw a pigeon with NO feet the other day. He smelt (smelled ??) terrible

He must have been ruing all those hours he spent learning to tie his laces Jamie.

I must stop narrowing debate.

That doesn't surprise me at all, gabby. I always had him down as a fancier.

I bet he's got a whippet, too.
