AIBU?

To take a tart with a slice out of it to dinner

Have been invited last minute to dinner at dh's friend's house. Dh volunteered me to make a dessert. I Made a tart tatin yesterday but it has a slice out of it. Aibu to take it rather than making a new pudding?

He is a good friend, there's only going to be four of us and we have 4 inches of snow. There is plenty of all in the reminder of the tart also. Maybe I could pre-cut it? Or should I just man up and bake something else?

precutting sounds like a cunning plan to me.

Yes pre-cut it into slices and arrange on a plate.

A friend does this when she comes for a cup tea.

Yes definitely cut it up and put it on a pretty plate, maybe sprinkle a bit of icing sugar across it, will be lovely!

I think it depends how big a slice is missing.

I think I will precut. Only one piece has been taken. But it's not squishable unfortunately. Have to get the bus so good excuse to put it into a more manageable box/tray. I reckon brazening it out will be the order of the day. Plus it's home cooked - they would be churlish to complain!

I hope the cheese lady DOES come! I would love to see her reaction!
I, personally, would never bring a pre-opened/cut dessert to someone else's house (unless maybe it was my parents iykwim?)

But I guess at a stretch if you pre-cut it it would be ok, but still a bit mean imo.

We had dinner guests once who brought us a packet of biscuits for dessert, they were opened and half eaten.....I can only say I was NOT impressed and was frankly a bit shocked. I had not asked them to being dessert, and if it were me, I would not have handed over the pack. I would rather show up empty handed if that's the best I could do. Apparently they got hungry on the 15min journey to our house Hmm

We had someone come once for a full on thanksgiving dinner (we do it for fun every year., despite being in the UK) with a half finished bottle of red wine. The wine was a 4 quid Co-op special. The woman handed it over and said 'here you are then'.

I was not that impressed, tbh. I would have preferred a hug and a thank you.

Oh... precut tarte tatin and icing sugar over it, in the circumstances you desribe is MORE than fine. :)

So, basically, it's leftovers? Grin Only joking, it's so good it had to be tried. Good for you making something, your friends should be thrilled and touched, I know I would be.

Must have missed the cheese lady. Link?

I thought I would get more of a pasting on this one TBH. Prime mn territory. Too late to knock something else up now so pre-cut only way forward. Dh is fine with it and (as the slice thief) has already declared it delicious.

Will make sure to cut extra big slices - am not trying to be mean just lazy!

The Cheese Lady complained that they were offered a cheese board by friends that had been previously used. It was established/the consensus from MN was, that there was nothing wrong with that, i.e offering a piece of cheese that had already been cut and was a tad misshapen.

Brill! What the hell are you supposed to do? Buy 6 weeny little pieces of stilton/cheddar/brie and throw the rest away after Cheese Lady has sullied it with her cheese knife?

Tarte tatin now sliced up. Wish me luck. Perhaps dh mate will spit in my soup?! Will let you know

Depends how good a friend it was, but over Christmas, I imagine we'll be getting together with our good friends and all pitching in with what ever leftovers we have in the fridge and not caring about it beyond wanting a tasty meal.

This isn't quite as hilarious good as the thread about what tea to give the tree surgeons but it's not bad.

Ah finally I am accused of being middle class!! Thanks tinkertitonk I was wondering when I would get my initiation.

Really it's just posh apple tart with more butter and no lid. No need to be offended.

Knkwing me. I will fess up to carving up a partly eaten tart after my sixth second glass of wine.
