Fuck off Aptamil...

...with you Facebook targeted adverts.

Since announcing my pregnancy on Facebook, I have been targeted by so many formula companies advertising 'baby clubs'. Aptamil are offering a free polar bear, and '1 to 1 advice'.... I wonder if this advice includes breastfeeding advice? No? Oh... no money in breastfeeding I suppose...

DS loves his polar bear. YANBU though. I took all the freebies, but BF'd him until he was 15 months.

Yes, unfortunately

Ignore them and change your privacy settings so they can't see your posts. Job done.

YANBU due to their marketing activities but I wouldn't get worked up about it.
When pg with DD I signed up as the polar bear was quite cute and she still plays with him now. It didn't influence, alter or affect my attitude to feeding DD in the slightest but maybe that's just me.

It will get worse, once dd turned 6 months my letterbox was flooded with "now you've done the best for your baby here's formula which is even better for your growing baby". DD is one on Saturday and I have already had cow & gate emailing me about growing up milk and its superiority to cows milk Hmm

Since announcing your pregnancy? Shock Do they actually have software for finding pregnant women and targeting them? Shock

But what about others that see the polar bear?! They're trying to get into our minds....!

OP, you could get some sort of adblock for your browser - I don't see any ads on Facebook at all using Ad Block Plus on Firefox.

I don't think it will be too bad, its more a moan on the relentless amount of bumph they send you re formula bot nothing else. Out of all the Cow & Gate stuff I've been sent I'd say 10% related to food and other products they manufacture.

Fucking hell!!

I've never even noticed the ads on facebook but I don't notice them on MN either Blush

I'm not on Facebook and Bounty pack woman came round just as we had some bad news at hospital so we (politely) told her to f off. Where's my frigging polar bear?

Report
hogfather · 16/12/2010 23:10

yes i think it does have a logo on it but even though I did FF didn't particularly sway me in the supermarket (more driven by price!)

Havent even had an email from formula companies tbh except Boots and Bounty and I should have been their prime target

If you change your settings so that only friends can see your stuff, they can't see your posts.

Throw any stuff that comes through the letterbox in recycling/use it to line the hamster's cage.

Would women really be influenced to use formula over bf by spotting my D's polar bear? I doubt it - they'd see the brand names in all the supermarkets anyway.

This drives me crazy! How can they be allowed to get away with this? We already have one of the lowest bf rates in Europe and this does not help and also gives extremely misleading info. Good luck with the birth OP, you obviously want to bf! Get as much advice as you can on it, try a breastfeeding meetup for mums, ask mums who have bf for their advice and try the book 'the food of love' and you would probably Like 'the politics of breastfeeding' as has interesting things to say about formula etc. My advice is a baby who feeds constantly for the first few months is normal (!) and cluster feed them in the evening! They are set like that...but I wonder if it's because I use applications on it?

It must work, else they wouldn't do it.

freddie its even more sinister than that. I never even put my pregnancy on facebook but somehow they knew. Think they monitor your internet browsing!
