I know I'm being childish but the thought of it just tickles me somehow.

I like it too

Would it be as amusing if it had been a knife?

Report

Not in the context, no

If a little child had poked her with a stick on a walkabout, yes

It is childish, but I sniggered. It's the way that the newsreader reported it.

'During the attack on the Royal car, it has been confirmed that contact was made with Camilla. Reports that she was poked with a stick have been unconfirmed'

Plus the term 'contact' in this context makes me think of aliens.

Seeing a 63-year-old woman being frightened and prodded with a stick amuses you?

I'm no fan of hers but YABAA (an arse)

I'm glad I'm not the only one. :o

Republican I may be, but I don;t wish her any harm. It was just the way in which the incident was reported on the BBC website which made me snigger. Had they said "was assaulted with a stick" or somesuch it would have been fine but the whole idea of poking her with a stick is somehow chuckle-worthy.

YABU - the sight of a screeching mob trying to 'get' to another human being makes my blood run cold.

I desperately tried to rationalise that this was not in the slightest bit funny and like turkey says she must have been scared.

But the way it was reported also got to my completely unreasonable immature side.

It's shocking - though not surprising - that Camilla being poked with a stick has attracted considerably more coverage than a 20 year old requiring brain surgery and nearly dying as a result of being hit over the head with a truncheon by the police.

What's that about then rosebud?

I thought the windows of the car just cracked and didn't actually break? So how did they get the chance to?

Report
tallwivglasses · 12/12/2010 23:00

The way the rest of the protest was reported I'm surprised they did use the word 'poked' rather than 'attacked' or 'assualted'.

I agree that you're being a total arse.

Why does everyone say 63yrs like it is old - my mum is 64 and still working full time. Has Camilla ever had a job of any sorts?

Report
tallwivglasses · 12/12/2010 23:00

or even 'assaulted'

Report
Beveridge · 12/12/2010 23:01

Rosebud - that was going to be my next point.

There were an awful lot of 'sticks' being 'poked' at people that day, I don't see why the media has to dwell on one particular incident.

'I thought the windows of the car just cracked and didn't actually break? So how did they get the chance to?'

Apparently some dimwit inside the car opened the window a bit.

Ah I see, well I guess it's true, the wording is a bit funny.

I feel a bit sorry for her though, she got a fright. Wasn't big or clever stuff really. Wouldn't have wanted it to happen to my mum (admittedly unlikely, as she does not hang out in limos with The Establishment)

Dangerous ground, CrackFox... like many MNers she has brought up children whilst her DH paid her bills. :o

I am a SAHM, at the moment, but I worked for 15 yrs before hand and intend to get a job in the next year. Camilla has never worked. i find it very odd.

Her DH at the time was Andrew PB. I don't think any upper-class women of her age had jobs, they weren't expected to be educated beyond school level...
