AIBU?

to think my brother is a twat

I went to see my parents tonight and as I was leaving my brother made a massive snow ball and threw as hard as he could at me, I turned and it hit me on the back. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and if it had hit my bump then goodness knows what could have happened.

YANBU

He's a numpty but it is unlikely a snowball to the bump would do any harm - I don't blame you for being cross though.

Agree that it probably wouldn't have harmed the baby, but it could have knocked you off balance. And throwing snowballs at pregnant ladies is indeed twattish, so YANBU.

he's a stinky brother innit?

I was overly protective of my bump this time last year, teetering along on the ice not wanting to fall does make you anxious.

I'm sure he just didn't think and if you said it as 'you just chucked something at a pregnant woman' he'd be mortified.

Possibly put it down to high jinx, unless he's a twat in other ways?

It wouldn't have harmed the baby unless it had ice. Does sound a bit twattish still though, how old is he?

AgentZigzag · 03/12/2010 23:24

Bet he's in his early 20's...

Report
iwerta · 03/12/2010 23:24

He's 15

Aww, he's just a daft kid then.

Yes, AgentZ, I was out today and remembered this time last year, 6 months pg, being terrified of slipping on the ice.

Unless the snowball had a breeze block inside I doubt it has harmed the baby in any way. There is a lot of water in there compared to the amount of baby and they have lots of room to move around and are very well cushioned. Your brother may just have been trying to get you to play with him (not unreasonable really.) You are not made of glass just because you are pregnant you know.

YABU is doing what a little brother does best.

Report
Boys2mam · 03/12/2010 23:28

Are you sure it was maliciously intended?

Whether YABU depends hugely on your normal relationship.

My DB is such a dumbass high spirited character he would have forgot about the pregnancy, I would have screamed at him told him off and provided all was ok, it would of been forgotten about.

What did he say afterwards?

All 15 yr old brothers are twats. Tis their nature.

"You are not made of glass just because you are pregnant you know".

True, but it's not unreasonable to be protective of your bump. I think it's instinctive.

We do have a pretty good relationship normally, we didn't say anything as I was about to get in the car

He's just a baby himself Grin

It's easy to rationalise the ice when you're not pregnant.

Which reminds me of the nicest thing my MIL has ever said to me. When I'd had DD2 I said I was glad it didn't matter if I fell over now she wasn't in there, and MIL said 'well you're important too'

At 15 he is just playing. If you were not PG wouldn't you have laughed and chucked one back at him?

lojolecs · 03/12/2010 23:41

YANBU what a twat, if my brother had done that to me then my dh would have lamped him.

lojolecs he's a 15yo boy who's thrown a snowball at his sister, I don't think that is justification for a grown man to hit him.

LessonsinL · 03/12/2010 23:49

Are you serious?

YABU

Report
popelle · 03/12/2010 23:50

YADNBU it could have caused you to fall and its only natural to feel protective of your bump. That said he's 15 and probably only did it for a bit of fun so its not something to dwell on and calling him a twat is probably a bit harsh.

really lojo?! if I was the OPs mum, I'd have your husband on assault charges if he'd lamped a teenager for throwing a snowball

Report
lojolecs · 03/12/2010 23:54

lewis, yeah dh was fiercely protective of me when I was dh and probably would have hit the roof if my brother who was 14 at the time had done that. A 15 yo will have a strong arm and an evasive movement could cause a pg woman to fall particulary if she is on snow.

YABU get a grip OP, he's not thrown a knife at you
