AIBU?

To think this facebook status update (yes, facebook!) is whiny and self indulgent

Have a 'friend' on facebook who I actually never see but often see her posts on facebook so vaguely know what's going on in her life.

She's got two under 3s - a toddler and a baby.

She recently posted a long write up of an example of her day so we could "all see what life is like for me with two children".

It was literally a blow by blow account of her pretty tedious day, e.g.

7AM get kids up
7.15 AM make breakfast

yadda yadda.

I've got little ones too (and I can't imagine anyone would be even slightly interested in the minituae of my day).

I just read it and thought... "and?..."

Anyway, is that not a bit whiny and self indulgent posting like that as though you're doing a job no one else could understand and you want a medal or something?

I'm in a bad mood today and I'm probably being a bit harsh, but she's got hundreds of friends on there and I'm sure they don't post every single last details of their day! Maybe they do?!

I have a friend who posts like that. As if she is the only one in the world to have 2 small children. On a bad day I find her irritatingly self pitying...but when Im having a better day myself I know really she is simply struggling and finding an outlet for it. I guess we all cope with the stress in different ways. My way involves lots of red wine Grin Hers is probably healthier!!

YANBU

We might all want to do it sometimes but manners and embarrassment stop (most of) us. Just get on with it and moan to your DP instead Grin

Oops, that's true, I cope just fine with wine as well.

She does also only have the children on her own for three days a week! So not really half as much of a struggle as she makes out, but that's another story...

Can I block her posts without defriending her justanother? I don't want to defriend as I may bump into her..

If she did it once, I don't think it's that big a deal. It was probably aimed at somebody specific.

You are self-indulgent to get so cross about something so irrelevant!

Lol @ "7am Get kids up"

Are you sure she has a toddler and a baby? Should that not read "5am children wake me up from deep sleep after I'd only just got to sleep following third waking of the night by baby"

how often does she post the updates?? as she is doing them, or one long one at the end of the day??

if it is as she is doing them, and you are seeing them, then maybe you are on FB too much and need a teeny break??

Thanks Lottie.

Reality, she sounds a peach!

She has done a few things like that before - a big post about why it's ok for parents not to make time for their friends because they're so busy being parents...

As she is doing them?

No, they aren't status updates - they're kind of note things that she pins to her wall but they come up in my feed. So literally a whole page of her day. Then a whole article about why parents don#t have to make time for other people.

I am on facebook too much though Grin

very dull - block her.
she should probably switch to twitter then she could update everyone on the minutia of her day as she goes Grin

meh, boring.

she has clearly too much time on her hands then, if she can write out things as she is doing them (obviously in case she forgets) so that later in the day she can do an essay to pin to her wall.

would love to see what she would make of essays of my days with 5 children, and how much of her daily feed it would take up

Grin psychomum.

EVERYTHING is in there, all the housework:

10AM: load washing machine
12:30: sweep floor

who in god's name cares?

Sounds like she's trying to validate herself, it's a bit sad really

Did I just get a passive agressive smiley?

I'm feeling oddly proud.

But seriously, why do you care? She has made 2 quite annoying posts.

I have a girl who endlessly posts pics of Chinese rescue cats, I don't care enough to be annoyed about it
