the beam of light from which also melted the ice in front of you would be an excellent idea?

SlartyBartFast Sun 28-Nov-10 18:16:09

a torch made of fire would do that? grin
though you would have to hang it low in front of you i assume

I don't want to rain on your parade but can you imagine the maiming you could do with such a hot implement? grin

I would probably also burn the retina of anybody who directly looked at it.

I still find it hard to believe that my dream is beyond the wit of Prof Cox et al.

You need a light sabre

Errmmmm Sun 28-Nov-10 19:43:53

If she had a light sabre she wouldn't need an ice melting torch. She could melt the ice with the powers of her Jedi mind.

"This is not the pavement you are looking for"

I do indeed, rat.

what about heated hover boots?

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube Sun 28-Nov-10 19:48:40

But the Force isn't strong here, Erm.
Am stuffed.

BigChiefOrganiser Sun 28-Nov-10 19:53:11

What you need is one of those granny shoppers with holes cut in the bottom. Fill it with grit, and push in front of you, thus gritting the pavement before you walk on it.

I'm not sure how you'd carry the spare grit to fill it up again though, it would only get you to the end of the block.

scrap that idea back to the drawing board

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube Sun 28-Nov-10 19:53:59

Honey wins. I NEED hover boots. A la Link.

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube Sun 28-Nov-10 19:56:44

Grit boxes every half kilometre should do.
With headlamps, that's a winner.

MrsChemist Sun 28-Nov-10 19:58:26

It's possible with mirrors and sunlight. I watched a program recently (think it was bang goes the theory) and a curved mirror about 1m diameter produced enough heat to melt metal. It was ace.

pjmama Sun 28-Nov-10 20:01:59

I think that all new cars should be fitted with tubes that run hot air down to some outlets under your front bumper. Then when it snows or is icy, everyone could drive slowly and melt a bit as they went along. If they can blow it into your car, why can't they blow a bit out onto the road too? grin

InkyStamp Sun 28-Nov-10 20:03:42

but if there was sunlight, why would you need the torch??f

InkyStamp Sun 28-Nov-10 20:04:53

f??? where did that come from???

KurriKurri Sun 28-Nov-10 20:09:54

You could use one of those hot paint stripper thingies, (one that ran on batteries obviously).
