I live on the border of a large park. We have regular problems with local kids riding their scooters, motocross bikes and quadbikes round the park.

I am currently on the phone yet AGAIN to the police as a group of six lads have turned up to take turns speeding around.

There are signs saying no authorised vehicles, but as if that does anything! I've seen them narrowly avoid pets and their owners or children and families. They often speed around in the dark or without helmets. They ruin the grass by leaving deep skidmarks. The noise is really irritating. I've been woke up a number of times by drunk idiots coming to ride at 4 AM for a laugh.

I am sick and tired of phoning park security and the police. If they turn up at all (and I appreciate it's not a fire or a burglary, but it is a safety issue and it happens ALL the time) the kids usually get away. The police aren't allowed to chase bikes in case the youths get hurt. They rarely have plates so I can only give descriptions. On the rare occasion that they nab someone, I've seen the police just give them a warning when they had the authority to confiscate the bike (which I think they should do every time, no ifs or buts - if you're going to ride something illegally then you have no right to ride.) I did see the police tow away a full sized motorcycle once, which was very satisfying as the kids were shouting abuse at the police and sulking.

What irritates the hell out of me are the irresponsible parents who have encouraged their kids and got them their scooter/bike etc. I have even seen families turn up together with a can of petrol (!!) so they can all take turns and keep riding for longer.

Quadbikes are actually illegal in the city, yet some people persist in giving them as gifts. You can bet on Christmas day, some lad will turn up with his shiny new quadbike and make a nuisance of himself.

I'm P with my first and I have said to my DP that there is no way in hell our child will EVER have any sort of scooter or motorbike. Over my dead body!

I don't blame you. Many a night DNephew and myself have been woken up by the bloody things screeching along the roads.

YANBU, they drive me insane on our beach, which also has a sign saying no motorised vehicles. They are dangerous and loud and have no place off roads, and quad bikes should be illegal anywhere other than a farm. There is a man around here that rides around on his with his un-helmeted son sitting in front of him and I just think 'do you not love your child enough to protect him?'

not at all

there's a little bastard lad who uses one, along with his bastard mates along our road

they go through the woods on it.

unless it's being dragged back in pieces dripping sodding oil all over the path

as PP said, the police aren't allowed to chase them in case they 'cause an accident'

i'd cause 'an accident' to it if i could get my hands on it

I live on an old railway line which is now a cycle path. I detest the feckers who ride their mororbikes and quads down it. It is pretty rare during term time but as soon as school holidays hit then out they come. It is a cycle path, vehicles are not allowed! I allow my children (2 and 4 years old) to run up and down it, ds often runs ahead and waits at the road. I want to be able to do that without worrying about some idiot on a motorbike. If I wanted to have to be careful of traffic I'd walk on the road. Not just children of course, horses too.

YANBU at all! They drive me insane, the kids round here have taken to riding them down our road at about 1am! That's when they aren't endangering other people at rush hour.

I fucking loathe them and the fuckwits that ride them. They should be banned on the noise irritant factor alone. The police don't give a shite.

Thank you all. It was good to rant, it gets so frustrating! I'm sorry you've had bad experiences as well.

Now we have had to ring up about some lads with an air rifle, but that's another story... sigh.
