AIBU?

to find the 'pleasure' people take in celebs discomfort disturbing?

I don't watch any 'reality TV' so perhaps I'm getting the wrong end of the stick; I do however read the news and have seen and heard a lot about Gillian McKeith's current run on IAC etc. I also follow people on Twitter who seem to be revelling in her behaviour.

I'm finding it all a bit disturbing - the woman obviously has issues and everyone laughing at her and treating her as a 'freak' is akin to cruelty.

If we put a dog into a pen and sent scorpions in or poked it or stressed it out in some way and then filmed it, there'd be a national outcry - so why is this ok?!

AIBU?!

Because she's a fake and a loon who is getting paid lots of money and chose to be there.

Yes that's the point though - why should she be allowed to be exposed in this way - if she's a 'loon' then shouldn't the show's pychologists protect her? And what does it say about the people who do watch it?

I don't watch I'm a Celeb and agree generally with you, but I have to say as an arachnophobe myself, I wouldn't be so dim as to put myself into that situation in the first place.

She is a human with free will, not a dog.

Im not saying its right but she made her name and got famous via bullying fat people - its not really surprising that people haven't 'warmed' to her.

I hardly ever watch reality shows but starting watching this as my teen DD's had it on every night. Gillian McKeith is a terrible actress and all the fake fainting has just served to make her look even more stupid. She said last night that she wouldnt go because she needed to see out her contract so dont feel too sorry for her as shes in it for the money. She is allowing herself to be exposed in this way - there is nothing wrong with her mentally she is just phobic and shouldn't have gone in the jungle if she was that phobic.

She is a better actress than me, and that's not hard. You make your own fame in life, bit like me - like marmite - love us, hate us, but you just have to have a sniff every once in a while to make sure. We are already mates on FB and she inboxed me before she went in.

misdee - your last statement is what makes me fundamentally depressed about the state of this country ......

I am obviously BU and will just retire gracefully to read a book, finish my tapestry or something constructive Wink

it's all an act. And I don't believe for one second that any of these people don't know what it's about before they go on there..

tbh I can't get my head around why anyone watches this crap anyway. "i'm a celebrity?" celebrity my arse. more like "im a has-been please help to revive my career by watching me pretend to make an arse of myself and get paid handsomely for the privilage." Hmm

I do think she is being bullied by the public.

yeah i know, i am scum Wink

no seriously, i am hugely pregnant and uncomfortable in the evenings. i started watching IAC out of boredom the other night and spent the whole time going 'and who is this person' cos i really dont know anyone apart from GMK, Dom and Linford.

GMK is a bit of a strange woman, and i thought that when she did that 'you are what you eat programme'

She seems very judgey judgey about other people there, and its fascinating to watch how she percieves herself and others in the jungle.

Not so many years ago, certain people enjoyed laughing at the "lunatics" in Bedlam too.

The whole point of these shows seems to be watching to see not-massively-stable people crack mentally...these programmes are not the human race's finest hour...

Agree with Mojo. Regardless of whether she's faking, in it for the money, publicity etc, this is bullying on a national scale. I think Gillian is an awful woman, who is clearly not terribly bright, but it's still appalling that there is a facility to enable the public to bully anyone on a mass scale like this. I love I'm a Celebrity, but feel this has been pushed too far this year and don't find Gillian's trials even remotely entertaining. I was relieved to see that she was excused today's trial on medical grounds - presumably the producers' way of stopping the misery.

SHE put HERSELF in there!!!

Fair Game I say.

If she can't stand the heat GET OUT!!

And if anyone is bullying it is the producers.

Katie - we do have a lot in common, you love horses, I'm scared of horses, you love tits, I'm scared of tits, you love pink, I'm scared of pink.

As I said in the hut thing yesterday "When am I going to get any consideration?" My Television career is very important to me, and I was glad when Alison said that after this I will have piles and piles of shit work to do.

yabu
we stopped watch it it after last year, the constant stuff jordan went through got boring.
but.....
these people know what they are setting them selves up for , they do it to get on the TV, and get paid.
I have no sympathy for them

yabu

she was aware of the show content before she went on it
money and attention are her god

she's in the right place

She chose to go in there. I doubt she has mental health issues, she's just a vile, nasty, selfish person. And yes, people like seeing people like that get their comeuppance.

She may or may not have phobias, but although she has lied and said she didn't know what to expect, it's very clear (as she's not consistent in her lies) that she did know.

and I agree with you tiredandgrumpy

misdee she was saying last night if she leaves she doesn't get paid & she's come this far so she'll stick it out. Got to admire that I guess. I love Shaun's new name for her "Meme".

As well as being bullying I think it's ruined the show somewhat turning it into the GMK show (like last year it was the KP show until she left)- all that shrieking is boring not funny.

If I was in that jungle by now I'd be screaming "I'm a celebrity, get me away from GMK she's doing my freaking head in!!!"

pretending to be scared of everything and her fake meltdowns is prob going to make her half a mil - so don't be too worried about her.

She can go any time she likes, the rabid auld crow. Like Havers did the other night, sensible man. She relishes the attention too much to leave.

I don't even watch it but I know what's happening because it's all anyone ever bloody talks about Grin
