to expect DP to clear up coffee spill?

Another partner/housework complaint but I am genuinely interested.

DP made the coffee this morning, brought me a cup in bed and got back into bed; so far so normal but half an hour later I got up went into the bathroom and found coffee splashed over the floor, bathroom door and hand basin

DP had spilt a cup of coffee and left it ready for DS to walk in and tread into the carpet.

It would have taken 30 seconds tops to clear it up.

Even after all these years I am surprised DP did not see the need to clear up the coffee there and then and got the hump when I asked who he thought was going to do so- inferred I was nagging etc.

I know this seems trivial but I am genuinely intrigued to know what could be going on in his mind.

I cannot imagine any woman would leave spilt coffee lying around but would other men in your experience?

YANBU If something is spilt it's better to clean it up right away.

He must be mad!!! Sounds like he was leaving it for the maid you to deal with. Seriously though even if you had a maid you'd still clean something like that up before it got stomped into carpet. Even a slob could throw a dirty towel/bathmat on top & deal with the rest when he finally made it out of bed.

I'd be very Confused, a little Angry and quite Shock if DP did that.

Of course he should clear it up. And then inferring you were nagging!

But he's not mad this particular dh - he's normal.

My dh - does the coffee in the loo and bathroom spills (why is coffee in their) = if ds out he'll have a fag in the kitchen and put the ash on the floor. That type of stuff.

I'll never get over it but he'll never stop doing it.

YANBU

He is being a lazy, scruffy git and needs telling! Tell him if he wants to live like a pig he's free to get a sty and until he can aford a 'daily' he'd better clean up after himself!!

Did he realise he had spilt it. I spilt coffee the other day in the kitchen and didn't realise until my Dh told me about it. I had gone of to do something and would have probably noticed when I went back to the kitchen but DH went in there before me.

If I hear something slip/splash while I am doing something else, I will finish what I am doing and then clean it up. However, perhaps he got distracted before the cleaning, as happens to me, sometimes?

He's probably annoyed because he knows he was wrong; sadly, that is a human trait!

Did he REALLY expect you to clear it up or did you just think it? Did you politely enquire if he were going to clean it up or did you come in all guns blazing?

As others have said, did he even realise he'd spilt the coffee? Hard to clear something up if you didnt realise it was there.

I think that pretty much determines if you were being unreasonable or not.

No this isnt another husbnd bashing answer!!
My DH doesnt 'see' things like spilt coffee etc either

Yester day he came home from work at lunchtime, and proceeded to make himself poached eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans and toast, never asked
(it being lunchtime)
if the kids or I wanted any/anything, then wondered why I was Hmm

Well he definitely did know he had spilt it,it was all over the place like he'd tripped up or something.
at first I was light and frothy, (unlike the coffee) 'ooh there's coffee all over the bathroom how did that get there' and DP made a joke and tried to blame DS and then I said 'you can't just leave coffee there are you going to clean it up?' I'm sure my tone betrayed a little irritation but I most definitely did not go in 'all guns blazing'.

And no I don't think he actively thought 'I'll leave that for her to clean up'. I have no idea what was going on in his head.

I did ask him not to speak to me as he had done i.e. suggesting I was nagging in front of DS and he did apololgise for that so relations are cordial I am just intrigued by the never ending man/woman/housework wrangle.

at least it didn't leak into the flat downstairs. dh dropped some milk and didn't wipe it up and it ran through the floor onto the poor man's ceiling. had him knocking on the door complaining. guess who had to sort that one out? not dh Angry

common sense is not that common.

they seem to think it sort of dries itself up somehow. magic? never ceases to amaze me that dh thinks the fridge is lovely and white because it is new(4 years old)
