To call the police?????????

I'm probably being a moany old crone, old before her years, but the house down the street is obviously having a party (huge marquee and disco lights in the garden) and the music is LOUD. We don't live that near them but the bass is nearly rattling our windows - we don't have kids but I feel for the others in the village who do, as they won't be going to sleep any time soon.

I know it's only early - and I won't call them but would IBU to call them if it carries on til 11pm? It's only been an hour and I'm fed up already :(

From what I remember of the law, the music has to be turned down at 11, so it may be that unless it carries on after that, there's not much you can do until then.

Someone feel free to correct me though.

The police won't do anything but tell you to call environmental health to judge the noise level. The police may then assist if seizure of equipment is needed.

The police might turn up after 11pm if there is a risk of trouble attached. But I think if you're ringing them before then, you will get nowhere.

No I wouldn't call the police, not before 11am - was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment really. Just feeling the pain of the parents in the village trying to get their babies/children to sleep :(

It varies by area who will deal with it - where I live it is the police, not environmental health.

YANBU
We have neighbours who have a party like this once a year and I have called the cops on them for it, their house is quite a way away with plenty of houses in between and it still farking loud here and they have some wanker DJing like he's in some club in Ibiza.

I would wait til after 11 though, although not too much later as obviously it won't be an urgent call for the police / whoever so may take a couple of hours to get round there

Surely you would go & ask them yourself to quieten down before you called the police?

What on earth do you mean, the bass is nearly rattling the windows? Is that like being nearly pregnant?

Moo Mk III here. I have neighbours like this too, and it isn't just once a year - it's many, many weekends in summer. They usually stop by 11pm but that's no help to my DCs when they're trying to sleep at 8.30 and have school the next Monday.
In the same vein I also hate people with loud petrol mowers who insist on mowing the lawn at dusk in high summer. I know it's good for the grass, but I just don't give a pomBear.

Perfumed - if it were any louder, the windows would be rattling. Is that okay for you? :)

I think you're being a bit miserable. If it was happening every weekend fair enough call the police. If it's a one off, as it sounds, and every other night of the year they are good neighbours then let them enjoy their night.

It is shit but until 11pm noone will do anything. Unless you go and knock on in the meantime?

If it carries on between 11pm and 7am you can complain.

I do sympathise. I'm a grumpy old cow woman too. Grin

I think you are entitled to peace and quiet in your own home, I don't know the legal specifics.

But as others have suggested, have another drink and turn up your own music or tv.

The thing I want to know is, did they not even have the grace to invite you??? Shock
