Followed by the sugar obviously.....

You do NOT repeat DO NOT dump the teabag, sugar and milk in the (bone china) cup/ mug/ whatever then pour hot water on top and hope for the best ?? angry

<feels grubby>

YABU.The milk should always go in first, and sugar shouldn't be involved at all.

IMoveTheStars Sun 03-Oct-10 14:06:13

If you're making tea in a cup, then the milk goes in afterwards.

If you're making it in a teapot the milk should go in first.

JeezyPeeps Sun 03-Oct-10 14:06:39

YABU. There should not be any mention of milk or sugar when it comes to a good cup of tea.

onimolap Sun 03-Oct-10 14:07:32

I don't put the milk in first, as I judge how much by the colour.

My mother thinks I'm peculiar.

Headbanger Sun 03-Oct-10 14:07:55

YABVU. The milk goes in first.

'Tis a class matter (ain't it always grin).

In Ye Olden Tymes, those with fine bone china teacups would put the milk in first, then the tea: boiling tea on exquisite porcelain = shattered disaster.

Those with rough clay mugs could slop in as much boiling tea as they like without cracking their cup- so tea first, milk after.

Anyway - that's what I'm told, and I like it, so I'm sticking to it smile.

Also, sugar in tea is vomitous. That is all.

YABU.

You should make the tea in a teapot, then the milk goes into the cup first and the tea is poured in afterwards.

Tea needs freshly boiled water, ergo milk goes in last after Tbag removed.

Instant coffee OTOH is best not scalded, so milk in first and water off the boil.

Yeeehaa Sun 03-Oct-10 14:08:37

Traditionally, milk was always added first.
This was to stop the boiling water from cracking the mug (the small amount of milk was enough to lower the temp)

I can't stand tea when the milk and sugar is added after, it just tastes wrong!

Each to their own!

OnlyWantsOne Sun 03-Oct-10 14:08:52

YABU you must put milk in first if using bone china cups, if you put boiling tea in first you will crack the cup.

when using a mug, hot water over tea, then milk

ApocalypseCheese Sun 03-Oct-10 14:12:59

Oooohhhh, you mumsnetters are a foul tea drinking strange lot at times shock

lazycow007 Sun 03-Oct-10 14:13:16

I'm in the same school of thought as the rest with milk in after if in a mug but milk in first in porcelain cup if using a teapot.

I don't use sugar i use sweetners.

<hides under cover quickly>

Meow75 Sun 03-Oct-10 14:13:35

I'm the only tea drinker I know who COULDN'T GIVE A TOSS about the order in which the components of my tea or coffee go into the mug. I honestly can't taste any difference, the only thing I insist on is PG Tips tea or Nescafe coffee. All the other brands can go f*#k themselves.

ApocalypseCheese Sun 03-Oct-10 14:16:22

Sweetners ??!! shock

Bleaches eyeballs !!!!!!!!!!

ApocalypseCheese Sun 03-Oct-10 14:18:55

PG TIPS ????!!!!

ShowOfHands Sun 03-Oct-10 14:22:33

I like Tetley.

Or sainsbo's earl grey.

And it's milk first you peasants.

backwardpossom Sun 03-Oct-10 14:24:26

YABU

Tea is made in the teapot, then poured into the cup which already has milk in it.

mistressploppy Sun 03-Oct-10 14:24:47

I'm with Meow. Cannae tell the difference. As long as it's hot and wet....

tethersend Sun 03-Oct-10 14:25:20

Isn't that the French way?

I heard that spies in WW2 were caught out by making their tea the English way, ie adding the tea to the milk.

I have no idea where I got that from.

And I don't drink tea.

Meow75 Sun 03-Oct-10 14:27:01

Mistressploppy, thank goodness. I'm NOT the only one!!

grin

DuelingFanjo Sun 03-Oct-10 14:28:34

YANBU - the milk definitely goes in last, anyone with any sense knows this.

DairyleaAndPickleOnAStick Sun 03-Oct-10 14:30:36

I do both, hmmm what does this say about me??!! <looks up self help book>

ApocalypseCheese Sun 03-Oct-10 14:30:52

<links arms with fanjo>

We are the only ones with any sense it seems grin

mistressploppy Sun 03-Oct-10 14:31:52

...However I do always put the milk in last if I'm making it.....

Rockbird Sun 03-Oct-10 14:31:59
