Ive just spent hours doing my shopping online because we are busy this week and i cant get into store. ive used them for years and had no problems. got to the check out and they no longer accept electron online. no alcohol in my basket, no tobacco or knives... just tins and stuff. Im really shocked. I dont want a credit card, i like having a debit card instead. i can watch what im spending much easier.

fucking tesco.

That is fairly crap.

But you don't have to have a credit card - there is visa debit, that's what I mostly use.

I have a million and one other reasons why Tesco are crap though

I use my ordinary bank card. Visa debit and never had any problems. It's not a credit card.

Knobs aren't they.

Are you sure there isn't a switch card that doesn't give any credit or overdraft that you can get? Not for Tesco specifically, but if this is going to be a problem generally...

Is their site still buggered? It hasn't accepted my card since June, or my mum's. I do online shopping at Asda instead now.

I didn't realise places still took electron, don't a lot not accept them now?

DH used to have an electron card but he got fecked off with the amount of places that don't accept it so he switched to Visa debit

Tippychoocks · 24/08/2010 18:56

I put money on a pay as you go one. Would that work for you?

I think they are phasing out the electrons, i got a visa debit card months back from my bank.

maybe just have a quick word with your bank about it

Have you tried just clicking on Visa. I only have an electron and the Visa thing always works. It is an overseas card though so that might be why it works!

I realise that this won't help you get your shopping done today but I use a pay-as-you-go credit card for online shopping. You can load it really easily and don't pay for the re-load if over a certain amount. I had my debit card hi-jacked last year so now won't use it for online shopping.

I've heard that Electron is being phased put too. I know Marks and Spencer no longer accept it online either. Can you not get a maestro card with your account?

I would ring up your bank and say the places you are frequenting don't accept electron.

That's what I did when they sent me a horrible electron lol

All the supermarkets online are like this now! We have electron same issue so I have to go to the store till I can be bothered to change card!!!

I thought most shops didn't accept Electron, thought it was for under-16s or something (like Switch Solo).

I've got an Electron card and I don't know about online, but I've rarely been into a shop which didn't accept it.

I too am a tesco hater and have now switched to sainsburys. Mine is for a different reason though. I just find their staff to be incredibly rude!!

Asda and Sainsbury accept Electron, which is the card I have for my day to day banking. I fail to see why Tesco won't though I was told by customer services it's because there is no way of knowing whether the holder is over 18 wrt alcohol and similar items. It makes no sense to me!

Flaming John Lewis don't accept it either, which is a real PITA. Why the hell do I need to be proven to be 45 to buy a bloody printer?

DH "won't allow" me to shop at Tesco because they are an ethical nightmare. I smile and shop online at a supermarket which is arguably just as bad (what else can I do, given our very limited budget?)

My FIL won't shop at his local Tesco because a member of staff was rude to him once. My MIL just smiles, goes along with it and drives an extra 5 miles to another Tescos.

I fucking hate Tesco. They are cunts of the highest order. Nothing to do with online shopping, everything to do with them being aggressive and pushy when trying to set up new stores. Arseholes.

I feel a little better now. Grin

I know this is a zombie thread, but they probably don't accept Electron because they only take the money after your shopping is delivered (in case the price changes) and Electron cannot be used for offline transactions.
