School holidays have started. It's about to get a whole lot weirder...

Easywriter Tue 20-Jul-10 15:01:11

Oh I think so too. (But I'm one of the loopy juices you probably mean).

I think people are being a bit serious and taking things personally.

Anyway, when it's sunny I'm sure things will improve.

It's been a madhouse! Some of the nutters external people who have come on here just to start fights for specific threads have been beyond "interesting", into the outer stratosphere of f'ing weird, if you ask me.

And I've been away for most of it! Just catching up with the fallout now...

sethstarkaddersmum Tue 20-Jul-10 15:09:11

It's the heat. It's like one of those novels set in an English country house during a heatwave where it gets hotter and hotter and the stormclouds gather and the tensions build up and everyone gets more and more extreme, and then there is the denouement in the course of a thunderstorm and then everything is apparently back to normal when the weather gets cool.
Except, of course, that Nothing Will Ever Be The Same Again.

ooh seth I have a real urge to read a novel just like that now. can't think of any though confused

sethstarkaddersmum Tue 20-Jul-10 15:17:14

Atonement?
The Go-Between?

thumbwitch Tue 20-Jul-10 15:17:19

Thought you might have been discussing That Thread, SMP! It's a madhouse bit of a worry. Far too many infiltrating loons visitors with interesting attitudes on it.

sethstarkaddersmum Tue 20-Jul-10 15:17:37

was MN on the news?

Oh no, it's Slubberdegullion's ramekins thread, isn't it? The pro-ramekin lobby may be small but they have a lot of friends in high places wink

lamplighter Tue 20-Jul-10 16:04:42

Hi

Anybody want to buy some ramekins? smile

None of them match but they are really very handy.

DarrellRivers Tue 20-Jul-10 16:05:40

I'm going to start a reassuring thread about hair dye

sethstarkaddersmum, the Go-Between is an excellent recommendation; I haven't read it for ages, but it would really suit the weather at the moment!

RuthieCohen, try some Iris Murdoch, such as The Bell or The Unicorn. She has written a number of duds, but those are more than just "safe" bets; they are bona fide gothic nutso brilliant books. Oh, and the Book and the Brotherhood is pretty brilliant, too, but very long, and probably too much as an intro to IM.

EmmaKateWH Tue 20-Jul-10 18:46:33

which thread???

KristinaM Tue 20-Jul-10 18:47:59

school holidays [sigh]

worse than " study leave" (ha bloody ha)

RuthieCohen Tue 20-Jul-10 19:15:46

Thanks plu and seth - I've been meaning to have an Iris Murdoch moment for a while now

<fires up Amazon>

pluperfect Tue 20-Jul-10 19:22:53

or your local library, if you are in a hurry and don't want to pay! smile

qwertpoiuy Tue 20-Jul-10 19:40:20

Tell me about it - I just made an absolute fool of myself on this thread when I misread the title! Aargh!
