Allergies and intolerances

insect bites

one of my acquaintances has had a bite where their hand swelled up so that they couldn't see the knuckles. They have food intolerance but no allergies and their breathing wasn't affected. Since I had antihistamine with me I gave them a dose. They were reluctant to see a doctor - should they? Their job involves being in grassy places so even with a good insect repellent they are possibly going to be bitten again.

i would want to go to the doctors if it were me.

1 of my mates woke up a couple of w/ends ago with
a HUGE swollen eye, she couldnt even see
out of it. doc didnt know what the bug was
but gave her anitbioctics (sp?) to get it down
and it worked, it might be the same bug,
doc also said that if it is a "new" bug there
could be nasty side effect to not getting any
antibocs...

as he knew what caused it - being bitten - he wasn't going to see the doctor unless it got worse. I was concerned because it came up quite quickly. We don't have any problems with bites so I don't know anything about the problems they can cause. Do remember one of my colleagues being off for ages, though, when one became infected.
