Speaking as a major eczema sufferer, the main thing that cleared it up for me was avoiding certain washes and shampoos. And the same applied to my DSs - I use Green Baby Organic Wash for them - it's expensive but worth it. You can get it in Waitrose. Or there's one in Sainsbury's which is also good - look for the one that says 'No SLS' on the label. (This is sodium lauryl sulfate) Also, very warm water opens up the capillaries and makes the itching/eczema worse, so try a cooler bath. Other than that, take a look at your washing powders. I also heard of a study that was looking at the effectiveness of water softeners on children's eczema.
Preventing the cause of eczema is important as well as trying to cure it with creams etc. The consultant I saw also said: Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. So pick an emollient and keep applying it. Vaseline was the thing that worked for me.

THANKS SEEINGDOUBLE. I WILL TRY IT.... I HAVE ALSO HEARD THE STORY ABOUT THE WATER SOFTNER BUT AS I AM FROM NORTHERN IRELAND THE WATER IS ALREADY SOFT BUT I DID NOTICE THAT WEN WE WENT ON HOLIDAYS TO ENGLAND 2 MONTHS AGO IT DID FLARE U BAD....

HIS SKIN WOULD BE EXTREMLY DRY I SPEND MOST MY DAY MOISTURISING HIM.... HIS ANKLES AND BACK WOULD BE THE WORSE....
THE EPIDERM IS PROTROLIUM JELLY SO ITS NEAR THE SAME AS VASELINE ONLI PROB IS THAT WHEN I USE IT HE WOULD SWEAT AND IT WOULD SMELL EASILY....
