toddler reaction to penicillin

Hi
My son has had a horrible reaction to penicillin. He has tonsillitus and was prescribed penicillin, only took it for a day and went to GP yesterday to confirm alergy. My question is, does anyone else suffer from this, his spots are blistering and so sore, just want to make sure that this was normal or should I be going to GP for 3rd day in a row?

I suffer from this and so does my youngest.
As long as you've stopped giving the penicillin completely then he will be fine. Just needs a few days to get over it.
Hope he feels better soon

and I'm sure you know this already, but make sure its on his notes that he is allergic and that he never gets it again - reactions can get worse.

thanks so much!
Did you ever get the blistery spots? I am probably just being an over worried first time mum but this looks so horrible!

My DS had a similar reaction when he was two. He had the blistery spots, and swelled up to the point he couldn't open his eyes and his wind pipe started to close. I seem to remeber antihistemine (probably spelt wrong) brought both under control. He got this severe reaction the second time he was prescribed penicillin so definitely make sure his allergy is flagged up everywhere possible - probably worth going to the doctor re the spots so you get it marked up on his records sooner rather than later.

Yes. Ds2 had this the first (and last) time he had anti-biotics. His reaction came a week or so later though and took ages to clear up.

GP told me that the first time is a typically a mild 'warning' reaction, and the second time would be much worse - hence the importance of having the allergy flashed up on medical records.

yes, ds had blistery spots too.
i had penicillin twice as a child and it was the second time i had throat swelling and went delirious, so i've never had it since and ds will never have it again either!
