Very very very miffed.

bloods from last time.......

hazel nuts 0.7
tree pollen 0.8
milk 0.2

house dust mite......mahoosive welt
cat and dog and rabbit.....welt
grass................mahoosive welt
tree.................mahoosive welt

everything else, teeny welts, but welts all the same

and the numbered plaster that differentiated the tests.......reacted to that too

I was tested for so much it was on both arms (and they test for 24 per arm!), and they were a little shocked.....

oh, and I am allergic to eye-make-up too it seems

sooooooooo

am I entitled to start wine now??? ((I won;t, got kiddies to tend to, but I feel the need))

foods to avoid forever...........milk, nuts, all fresh fruits, fresh tomatoes, filtered coffee (instant is fine however......oh the joy)

can I have permission to also scream, VERY LOUDLY.......

I know that avoiding foods is, in the grand scheme of things, rather irritating, but I feel like my life, as I currently know it, has ended a teeny bit!

so......sympathy in spades please (for today at least.....tomorrow I will , and carry on)

are you allergic to alcohol?!

FWIW DPs mum was given 2 double sided A4 pages of things she is allergic to. she stopped them ALL and then introduced the important(to her) things back slowly and as long as she has little she is ok(well, with mild symptoms)

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 15/10/2008 14:11

do not suggest wine allergy.

I may self destruct!!!

MoM......that sounds possibly feasable(sp?), once I rid my body of all aleggies

I had a similar result many years ago. Did they talk to you about food rotation? Leaky gut syndrome? Allergy shots?

If it makes you feel any better I am much improved now.

not suggested anything TBH bar sending me info on the dustmite allergy.

I am already on the strongest fenafexidine anti-histamine there is (180ml), and I have eye drops.....I also need to go to the docs for different inhalers!

and I have an epipen so have been instructed to join the anaphylaxis campaign (which I should have done already, but I not got round to yet).

for now, I am to avoid all make-up for four weeks and then try one item per day.....see which sets me off, and then swap it to hypo-allergenic stuff (which will be expensive apparently).

change my bedding to anti-allergy stuff......plus take up carpets where possible.

oh, and rabbits to be put out of the living area......but they are babies so not sure where/how as yet ((or what DD2 will do)).

wine tho....I will do ASAP

jabberywocky......where was it that you had allergy shots/suggestion of leaky gut ((what is leaky gut??))

Ok spades full of sympathy.

The medinose type devices are good for inhaled allergens and if you deal with the worst allergens your body may be able to cope with the rest. I have a terrible memory - what did they give you the epipen for?

If you are in Britain rabbits will be fine outdoors in a big hutch with lots of hay provided you don't keep bringing them in and taking them out again. In the worst weather something like a shed (big enough to put hutch in) is useful.

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 15/10/2008 15:54

the epipen was prescribed as I went into allergic shock back in january from a fruit smoothie (there was no milk in it, just fruit and apple juice). they deemed me in need then as the likely hood of another reaction like that is/was high until I had been tested thoroughly. As I have now also tested positive to nuts they advised me to keep it, as I am going to be a nightmare eating out........I am hopeful that I won;t react badly, I haven;t since then, but they saya better to be armed than now, seeing as I am clearly very allergic!

thankyou about the rabbits......we do have one already that lives outside, and has now for over three years, but as these two are still teeny, I wasn;t sure it would be ok. I guess we will be snazzy hutch buying too now.

Wow, psycho, didn't know you had reached the anaphylaxis stage. I'm in the US, btw so not sure what all is available there. But here is some info on leaky gut syndrome which can definitely have a hand in allergies for some. For me, it was linked to taking way too much ibuprofen.

I hated taking the shots so didn't finish the full amount recommended but I did eliminate ibuprofen, etc. and did my best with food rotation and noticed a big improvement.

Coffee is bad

Wine would be much much worse

Don't even suggest it to that helpful consultant.

Not metals, then, if you are keeping the spade? I get contact rashes (well, welts/boils, but rashes sound nicer less gross) from any metal other than 18carat gold - so no cheap jewellery but also means I have to wear granny knickers under jeans to protect me from the rivets

Baby bunnies will be fine - against a sheltered wall - or in the garage, maybe?

Report
PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 16/10/2008 08:30

jabberwocky, thankyou. I will read up on it later.

stealth......I do react to certain wines already. Flame gets a good giggle out of me.....my face reacts in such a way that I look as tho I have a rashiefied (if that is a word) goatie......!

coffee I can live without to a certain degree (says me with a cooffee addiction).....I can cope with instant at least! Wine on the other hand.......

I am better with pricier wines, but of course, that is dependent on finances and whether I need the wine, or can wait.

I am finding it tough already without the make-up tho.......I wear make-up all the time!!!!

rabbits grow fast - by the time it's really cold they won't be baby bunnies any more. Still according to my rabbit book its changes of temperature that are the real problem. We had a cover for the hutch and used to put a blanket over it in cold weather. If the forecast was much below freezing they'd go in the garage - but the book says not to do that if there has been a car in there recently. However a shed or conservatory would be OK. If the water bottle freezes its too cold outdoors.

I know the tests are supposed to be specific to what they are testing but it seems to me that once they've tested for something you really have a problem with everything comes up higher. At least my child has tested positive for things they eat safely.

Did they offer any comment on whether you'd be OK with well cooked fruit? Some people are as heating changes the proteins.

Ummmm - hate to say this but you do know alcohol can make reactions worse? It may be the dehydration so take a lot of water with it

You have my sympathy.

I don't know if you use foundation, but I found thiss to be a good base, it is hypoallergenic as well, so may be worth a try when you can start wearing make up again? Cheap too!!

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 16/10/2008 10:28

tatt......yes, they have stated that cooking fruit will mean I can eat it. I know this should work as I can eat tomato in sauces etc, but eating them now is making my mouth react in the same way that I used to react to apples.......I now react really bady to apples, so I am guessing I am heading that way with fresh toms, which is gutting as I love baby plum toms!

and I know you have a point with the alcohol, but I am so loathe to give that up. I still need one of my joys.

and yes, yesterday I reacted to evereything, which they say showed false positives, so we have only really gone for the things that came up really angry rather than just with a welt (IYGWIM), and what I reacted to in my bloods.

I think some of it tho is that I am reacting all the time becuase of the airborne allergens, which are far harder, if not impossible, to avoid. it means that some of the foods I have, might only in reality cause a teeny reaction not worth bothering about, I now react bigger too because they are 'tipping me over the edge', if that makes sense.

sooooo....for now I completely avoid all that I react to strongly, and for the rest, avoid for 4wks, and then introduce slowly and see how I get on. I am doing that with the make-up (altho that is hard right now as I wear it everyday!), and the milder reactive foods (mainly filter coffee).

it is just so hard and limiting tho. I have to be always aware of foods and ingrediants and where I am going to be eating

stretchmark.....thatnkyou. Yes, I do wear foundation....altho to be honest I don't seem to react to stuff on my face, but my eyes are dreadful. I will look out for that tho, as I will need to ensure it isn;t my foundation, and that looks cheaper than the stuff I would be able to get in boots (my MIL has special hypoallrgenic stuff and pays £25+ for her foundation)

psycho, I got this book b/c we have allergic-type kids and I wanted to try to head off anything really serious. You might see if they have it in your library just in case there's anything that could apply to you.
