anyone else have an atopic child who sleeps badly?

My 2 1/4 ds seems to go through phases of sleeping badly, especially at the moment. He has been waking up a couple of times in the night for the past 2-3 months. Usually he is very good but it seems that every 4-5 months he goes through patches of bad nights sleep.

He has a number of food allergies and mild to moderate eczema, which is ok at the moment. He sounds snotty in the night and does snuffle in his sleep but doesn't have a runny nose or cold in the day. He has been quite a snuffly baby since he was born.

I just wondered if anyone else with an atopic child has experienced this and wondered if it could explain his night waking. I thought I would call on mn before going to the dr as they are not brilliant when it come to allergies and I can't seem to get hold of our allergy consultant.

My dd is 27 months. She has had eczema since she was 2 months old. She is also quite snuffly at night and is taking inhalers for asthma. So far she has never slept through the night. I think it is due to the fact that the itchiness and discomfort of her skin caused her to have so many bad nights when she was a baby that she never settled into a good routine. I'm not sure that there is much that can be done about it. Now that my dd is over 2 I give her an anti histamine if the itching is very bad and that does help her sleep better.

DS was very snuffy at night for years, until we realised dairy was causing it.

Have dd with eczema and asthma - doc said coughing at night was due to post-nasal drip (mucus dripping down back of throat). But she sleeps quite well despite this. She is definitely better when she has exclusively goats milk rather than cows milk. Check with HV if that ok for your ds - as she was older when we moved over to goats milk.

He is allergic to all dairy, eggs, nuts and lentils which we aviod all of and he has neocate formula instead of milk.

He doesn't tend to cough, just wakes up crying and when I go in I can hear he is bunged up and he gets upset when he rubs his nose to try and clear it (upset because it doesn't clear rather than it is itchy!). I know it isn't his skin as we have it under control at the mo and you can tell when it is his eczema that has woken him.
