Allergies and intolerances

Anyone know of an *alternative to a wetsuit*?

We have just returned from a holiday to Cornwall. DS1, aged 4, had a severe allergic reaction to the new wetsuit we bought him and was very very sore. Included two trips to hospital, oral and topical steroids and two trips to have a dressing applied and then reapplied to a blistered area (he is clearly allergic to the neoprene or a chemical agent that is used to harden the rubber).

Feel like the worst mummy in the world!
Until we have formal allergy testing (waiting for a referral from docs at present) we are looking for an alternative to a standard wetsuit...anyone got any ideas?!

oh your poor DS!

cotton swimming trunks and a t-shirt? When I was little that's all we ever wore. DS doesn't have a wetsuit either and we spend a lot of time on the UK coast.

Wetsuits aren't really necessary are they? (unless, of course, he is a professional surfer, in which case, ignore me! )

lol!!!!
no...but we are rather strapped at the mo and it will be a trad british summer for us again this year. We found that last year he just got too cold with just trunks and a tee.

Mind you it will probably be peeing it down!

You could try a rash vest and shorts underneath, but if it's something that comes off, then it'll probably leach through those in the water, so may have the same effect.
