Allergies and intolerances

3 year old with very offensive wind

DD has been suffering with very offensive smelling wind for a few months. She doesn't have a particularly high fibre diet or eat any beans, etc, which would seem the obvious reason. She had a lot of runny poos as a baby and always had quite explosive sounding wind. She occasionally mentions stomach pains but not very often. We don't really know what to do but need to try something as we have to stay home some days when it's really bad.

Any advice gratefully received!

p.s she has egg allergy, eczema and mild asthma if that's relevant

I am no expert, but I have just found out that my DS has a bad milk allergy. His reaction was 20 mins after his first ever formula bottle (and last) throwing up violently for a few hours and he has had REALLY bad eczema ever since. Reading up on milk allergy/intolerance it does say that sometime if it is a milk intolerance the main symptoms are bad wind, tummy pains and upset tums. It might be worth checking out because asthma, eczema are all linked to allergy.

Thanks NooBee. Typically the only thing she really likes to drink is milk so she does have lots of it. She had skin prick tests after her egg reaction but they came back negative to everything suggesting that she wasn't allergic to anything, however she still has severe reactions to egg so I am doubtful the skin prick test worked. How was your son tested?

Blood test confirmed it. Hang in there - all so hard this allergy thing. Hope you get to the bottom of it.

Sounds like it could be a milk allergy or intolerance at least - the tummy aches, diaorrhea(how on earth do I spell it), constipation and the worst killer farts on earth are all things my son had and has when he takes milk again.

Try cutting it out for a couple of weeks totally and see what happens.

BTW, DS is totally intolerant, DD has less intolerance but gets the tummy aches when she drinks milk.
