You need to get it checked out, just in case. I had it and it was obstetric cholestasis, some sort of liver dysfunction, (Don't mean to freak you as I know that itching is common, but just mention it to the m/w.)

speak to midwife, they'll order some blood tests to make sure its not OC as moondog mentioned. if they come back clear then lots of moisterising, and try to keep cool. went thro it myself the other week, turned out to be a reaction to something.

There are a few threads on this if you search old threads. If it's not obstetric cholestasis and just pregnancy itching (it has a name that i have forgotten), then it's what I had and I found that a powder my parents bought in hongkong worked really well (had tried everything else). I forget the name of it, but I looked it up and posted it on one of the other threads so if you search, you'll find it. good luck. it will stop almost immediately after giving birth.

Please do get it checked out.
If the itching is mainly on your belly/boobs and other areas that get bigger in pregnancy then it is likely to be just stretching dry skin - use lots of fragrance free moisturiser.

If it's your arms, legs hands or feet that are itching it could be Obstetric Cholestasis, which is not as dangerous as you will think it is is if you google However if it is not properly managed OC can cause stillbirth post 36/37 weeks of pregnancy. So plenty of time before you need to worry.
To find out, ask your GP to do Liver Function Tests (a simple blood test). Raised AST and ALT levels are a symptom of OC. These can be checked at your local hospital and should come back very quickly. Also ask for Bile Acid Tests. THe blood for these needs to be sent to a hospital in Birmingham which will take about a week to get the results. If your GP/midwife doesn't want to do these you shoudl ask to be referred to a consultant - some doctors are still somewhat ignorant about what is a dangerous, but perfectly treatable and manageable condition.
If it is OC, then the only things that can rally help the itching are keeping cool, and drugs (Ursodeoxycholic Acid)

Good luck.

Hi everyone, those who were diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis do you by any chance remember your bile acid level? I know that the range is between 0-14 and after a blood test mine showed to be at 57. I would like to know how your pregnancy was if you such a high level of bile acid.
Thanks in advance
