Allergies and intolerances

Is this asthma?

My 14m old has allergies to egg, lentils, strawberries, pineapple (haven't tried her on kiwi, peanuts or nuts). She had 'extremely severe' exczema (clinics words) from 6weeks until around 9 months when it got gradually better (Doublebase emolient 10 times a day at times). She has frequent coughs especially at night (and constant runny nose) and has had croup. Is this the start of asthma or am I being neurotic (its happened before!!!!! altho I do try to fight it!) - my GP seems to think its the latter but her allergy specialist gave me the impression asthma was almost an inevitable addition to her arsenal of allergies. Feel quite fed up about it all and quite tired of worrying...... Anyone got any experiences?

Sounds like she is atopic, and she may have an asthma attack in the future. There's not much you can do about it except be vigilant.

Coughing can be an asthma symptom, but the key thing is actual laboured breathing (recession between the ribs and in the throat).

If your DD has breathing problems, don't be afraid to go to A&E - better safe than sorry - and they will follow up with paediatricians to monitor her progress.
