Allergies and intolerances

one extreme to the next

My 3yr old son has real pain with cramps when he uses his bowels, his pain seems to be from constipation but when he does eventually go his poo is very smelly, sometimes mucasy, and soft to runny.
He suffers this way for a couple of days and then he seems to be constipated for the next two. I am going to get him checked out again as changing from cows milk hasn't helped.
I just wanted to know if these symptoms sound familiar to anyone. I am very worried and I hate to see my little guy in such pain.

Poor lad my godson was the same but his was caused by cows milk and you have already removed that from his diet. Only thing is get him to the doctors an strongly request a specialist opinion.

its obviously a food intolerance.

How long have you removed dairy from diet, and have you done this completely?

we have had him on a lactose free milk for a about a month now, at first it seemed to help a little but cant be to sure.
He has still had other dairy, as I guess the first step is taking away milk and then going from there.
I have made an appointment for him with the doctor, I guess wait and see.
Thanks for sharing yor thoughts.
Its crazy how many people seem to be affected.
Is it that we are more aware these days or that food just is'nt the way it should be?

Hi there
My ds is three and a half and has had exactly the same symptons as your ds. You need to take all milk proteins out of his diet. Do this by changing to soya milk. My ds seems to prefer Alpro and I buy the unsweetened one. For margerine or butter we use Pure - it comes in three varieties - any will do. Cheese - forget apparently, although you can buy a dairy free kind. Do not give him anything with whey, casinates, lactose or milk - even skimmed milk powder which seems to be in everything. If you like to give him biscuits, the ones with no milk are hobnobs (not choc variety obviously), rich tea and party rings. There are also loads more but you need to start reading labels. For things like cake and yorkshire puds we generally make our own with Alpro milk and Pure butter. If you like to give him chocolate then most dark chocolate does not have milk in - but check labels. My ds loves Green and Blacks dark with orange - he has expensive tastes! Good luck but you must be strict about it or there is no point and he will still be in agony. Allycat x

Thanks so much for your advice,
we already use dairy free marg for spreading and cooking.
We have him on a lactose free milk, but I think I will give soya milk a go. And I will definatly have to start reading lables.

Thanx again.
