Allergies and intolerances

Animal Milk Intolerance in 11 month old...info on Provamel?

Hi

This is the first time I have posted but came on for advice. 11 month old daughter has an intolerance to cows milk and indeed all animal milks. Soya not suitable either.

Had this diagnosed via kinesiology (realise this has mixed opnion on mumsnet!)as was fobbed off by the GP with steroids and useless emollients. Intolerance manifests as a bad skin rash. Have done some research and would like to try Provamel. Anyone know if this is suitable for 11mth old? Worried about calcium intake.

Any advice would be welcome!

The rice and soya milks you can buy in the supermarket are not suitable to give to babies as they don't contain the right nutrients.

You should see your gp, who will refer you for proper testing and prescribe a suitable formula.

I know that some provamel products contain soya - the rice drink I have researched, but have yet to try, hasn't.

Anyone tried it?

but rice drink is not suitable for small children. it does not contain the nutrients they need.

i give my ds rice milk but i am still breastfeeding so that makes a difference
it must be hard when your dd is allergic to the obvious alternative

mamazee-she doesn't know the baby is allergic. she has been told this by someone who is quite frankly a charlatan. (imo)
sorry to be so blunt about this but i really think it's true.

simply looking at rice milk as a possible source of calcium to add to cereal etc, not as a feed - thanks for info. Any suggestions for alternatives to provamel?

jumperoo did not ask for our opinion about choices she has made about allergy testing but about alternatives to soya and cows milk mildmannerd.

Thanks for info mamazee - have drastically reduced cow's milk intake in the last month and symptoms have greatly reduced - rash not as prevalent. Just looking for some alternatives at the minute to ensure essnetial nutrients etc are maintained in her diet. Have only started to research so will keep going. Happy not to be using steroids given by GP without allergy testing even being suggested by them - great that so many organic and friendly emollients are available!

I use rice dream and the provamel rice drink to give to my 1 year old as an extra source of clalcium. You can also get oat milk.

Have read about rice dream and sainsbury's 'free from' range. Thanks. Will look into them further.

Thanks trixymalixy - believe it or not she had a bad reaction to some cream that contained oat milk.
