Hi Shell - not sure, but I posted on my DS's eczema last night and got some helpful replies. Seems that you can use the general bath oil for babes, but someone gave me a link to a website called soft-skin.co.uk where you can order all the baby Aveeno stuff online (can't buy it in the UK apparently). Hasn't arrived yet but can't wait as am at my wit end with GP prescribed products.

I've use the normal Aveeno cream on DS since he was 1, with no problems ( he had no eczema before that age)

I've tried a gp prescribed aveeno - don't think it was for babies though. Also didn't work. Using doublebase now - also not working. Tried diprobase and oilatum - didn't work.

What's working for you lot if you don't mind me asking? dd is only 13 weeks old and developed fairly bad eczema 4/5 weeks ago.

Hi Silkcushion - confess the ONLY thing that has worked on DS's very flared up face was very mild 0.5% hydrocortisone - a lot of other mnetters have agreed that there is no other surefire way to calm down a flare up. Once it's under control, most people advise Aveeno to keep it under control. I had been using Oilatum in bath and cetraben as cream...neither making any real impact...sorry i can't be more help. If you look for my post from yesterday one mum gave quite a long post on all the options she had tried, which was helpful. Will try and post the link here. Need to go off and find out how to

Hi,

Yes ive ordered Aveeno off Soft Skin website and got one product that was recommended on Mumsnet but isnt in the baby range intensive stuff ... DS 5 months so think i will speak to doctor for that one ..

I spoke to doctor last week as nothing seems to work only the steroid ointment so doctor said dont use anything else and its dried up and less red and clearing .. as spreads so quick.

Used aqueous cream didnt work made it worse used cetraben cream and bath oil made it worse or didnt help. Got a chlorine ball to put in bath from babymoon and think it maybe helping ... heard about elena's natural collection is good and someone said Doublebase is good .. but you say its no good for DD ...

hi, I use baby aveeno from the soft skin website on DD (6 months) and have just started with hydrocortisone for a flare up. Haven't heard of chlorine balls? Do they help with hard water? Our water's awful and I'm sure that's part of the problem.

Hi

Chloride ball gets rid of chlorine in bath water just swirl in baby bath tub whilst fillin up and removes from water and softens because we have bad water its so hard and i read about hard water and ezcema.

www.babymoon.co.uk/shop/

There ÂŁ30 and free delivery but i think if your like me price doesnt matter ..

Thanks - have ordered the ball today, sounds like a good idea for all the family anyway. Sorry you have ended up helping me out rather than the other way round? Do you have the answer to your original OP do you think? If not, hopefully this post will bump for someone else's eyes...

My ds is under the dermatologists for his excema and he uses the normal Aveeno cream - can get on prescription - plus steroid creams as necessary for flare ups. I need to use the Aveeno twice daily to keep his skin soft. Have also tried diprobase and cetraben but Aveeno much better.
Short term use of steroids is less damaging to the skin than the damage eczema can cause if left untreated.

Shell - I BF'd until 14 weeks, then switched to formula - haven't noticed any deterioration since switching - he had it from birth, so not sure it was a factor, if that's what you're wondering.

Thanks all. Shell I use Aptamil - paediatrician is adamant that it is not causing the eczema (don't know how she can be so sure).

Have used 0.5% hydrocortisone and 1% when that didn't work. Now have daktacort - hydrocortisone and anti fungal I think. Might give the aveeno another try.

DS is on SMA gold....for what it's worth. It's just what my DD had, and I didn't really know there was much of a difference between the different brands.
