Allergies and intolerances

Strawberries??

I was told not to give dd strawberries untill she was 1, she's 10 months now.

I was looking at a jar of baby fruit and noticed it has strawberries in it, she's been having this type of food since she was 6 months. DD also said she'd had strawberry yoghart.

Does this mean she doesn't have a strawberry allergy? Can she have fresh stawberries?

Advice welcome please.

Not necessarily - I know of people (children) who can cope with the yogurt but not the fresh fruit.

Strawberries do often cause mild reactions in young children - my nephew had a strawberry allergy at 2 and outgrew it by 4.

Do you have a particular reason to believe she might be allergic, or are you just being cautious? Unless the former (history of bad allergic reactions) why not just give her a piece and see?

Why were you told not to give them to her, does she have a lot of allergies?

I think the baby fruit would prob just be blended up fresh fruit so probably ok but I wouldn't like to say without knowing a bit more.

My old HV told me to avoid giving her, peanuts, honey and strawberries for the first year.

I get hayfever and I used to have an onion allergy, so there is allergies in her family.

I just spoke to my stepdad who's a doctor and he said if she'd had them in babyfood puree more than once it would be unlikely she would develop an allergy now.
