Allergies and intolerances

Can I use rice milk on cereal for my milk allergic baby?

I'm waiting for results of blood tests and to see a dietician but in the meantime I'm wondering if she can have rice milk on her cereal?

Two health visitors have said different things but I'm struggling with breakfast ideas for her now.

Think I want to stay away from soya milk but does anyone else use that?

I wouldn't be using any of these milks as a drink as she's still breastfed btw

no reason why you can't if she's getting most of her milk from you. DS has rice milk in his porridge etc, as i think he has dairy intolerance.

My dd is milk intorelant and I use rice milk. GP advised me to stay away from all dairy until 12 months. I use Provamel as it has calcium and vitamins added. Some rice milk only has calcium. The dietician turned her nose up at the milk without vitamins. DD is still bf so getting most milk there.

I was wondering exactly the same thing! and struggling to think of breakfast ideas!

We've just disccovered our ds has wheat, egg and milk allergies! I've been breast feeding until now but have been prescribed Pepti formula , so might try using that for breakfast and in cooking!

I tried her with rice milk over the weekend and it seems to have gone down ok! Wish I could get formula like you pitstop but gp reluctant and paediatric clinic sooooo sloooow (apparently there is only 1 paediatric dietician and she only works 9 hours a week!)

I used rice milk for a while. I'm sure I used it in cereal.

Canmummy

I'm very fortunate in that a friend of mine is a dietician and she's the person my consultant has referred me to see!!

She just told me rice milk is fine for my 7 month old, but it doesn't have any protein. Also you need to make sure its fortified with calcium!

If you are BF then no need to worry, she can have rice milk. I use soya milk for my DS if I haven't enough EBM but I know that some dairy intolerent children are also allergic to soya (no signs here yet).

The dietician I saw said that DS could have apple juice on his cereal to wet it so I can't see that rice milk would be worse than that.

Pitstop - cheers! The only thing I've noticed is the enriched milk substitutes have sea salt added. I'm assuming then it's such a small amount as to not to worry about it?!? Lucky you with your referral! I'm thinking of ringing the consulant's secretary tomorrow to try and hurry the appointment up

Apple juice? Never thought of that! Isn't it a bit sweet?

Soya allergy is why I was trying to avoid the soya milk but I've given her puddings made from soya so I think she's ok with that! It's such a worry and a minefield wish we could just hurry up and get seen!

I know, I wasn't very impressed to be honest. Needless to say I won't be using apple juice.
