Wedding ring dermatitis

Hi everyone,

I got married in December just gone and I've started getting these itchy, red lumps on my finger underneath the ring, I'm wearing a white gold bridal set and I cannot wear it because it swells up and just really itches and goes bright red, I have to take my rings off and cream them for a while and then when it improves I put the rings back on and then it comes back again, I know you can have wedding ring dermatitis and this is so annoying! I was wondering if you can get your rings coated or something so it stops this happening? Has anyone else had this problem?Confused

I work in a hospital and had this, dermatologist suggested maybe soap and moisture trapped under the ring... Now I take ring off and wash, rinse and dry hands and the ring and put it back on. Not having any problems now Smile

I get this. Drives me nuts. I have steroid cream off the doctor. I think it's when I wash my hands water/soap gets underneath if.
What does help is to clean it regularly by soaking the ring in gin or vodka overnight then rinse and thoroughly dry it cleans the debris and build up from underneath

Yes it's the white gold getting damp. White gold has nickel and other items mixed into it. I can't wear cheap jewellery because of this, it makes my skin go green. Recommend making sure you take them off when washing hands, I'll often pop in a pocket if I'm out and about, then replace once dry.
I also try to not wear at home but just out and about.

I take mine off whenever I have contact with water and stopped wearing them overnight. Probably about 95% of the time I’m ok now.

You can have them filled in

Some rings have hollowed out gaps that hold the water.

I had this, just make sure you dry your hands really thoroughly. I have a shiny scar band under my ring now and it doesn't get irritated anymore.

I get this from soap and moisture under the ring. So now I take them off to wash my hands and shower. Dry hands carefully and put back on. Stops it happening.

Thank you for the replies everyone 😊

I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets this! So gutting though ☹️ I will try the gloves and taking them off when I wash my hands etc.

I had this and realised it was the cheap soap at work that was giving me it. I take my own soap and it's gone away.

Its probably a nickel allergy in the white gold. Maybe swap for platinum or titanium
