Allergies and intolerances

Can you suddenly develop an allergy to red wine?

I’ve been a red wine drinker for years and never had a reaction, but I had a few glasses tonight and have developed a red rash on my arms, shoulders, back and chest and also have nasal congestion and a headache.

As soon as I stoped drinking the rash that appeared first has started to fade and I’m able to breathe a bit better.

Is it possible to develop an allergy after years of no problems, or could it be something else?

You can get an allergy to anything at any time as far as I’m aware.

I have become intolerant to red wine after years of it being my drink of choice. No rashes but really hideous hangovers on not much wine. I have to drink white now 🙁

Fo me, yes. I love red wine but it doesn't like me any more. 2 glasses absolute max. I wake up in the night feeling dizzy and gasping for breath.
Fruity reds make it worse. If I stick to oaky shiraz it's ok.

It could be the type of wine.I occasionally get scarlet face, rash and itching from some wines, just from a few sips.Ive never been able to narrow it down to which ones though.
I can still drink red wine but since I am always the driver only drink at home so haven't had a problem for a while now.

You can. I developed an allergy to nuts at 16, dust at 21 and eczema and asthma whilst pregnant. There are apparently hormonal stages that women go through which can trigger allergies. Puberty, peri menopause, pregnancy etc.

I have. I get wheezy and an itchy mouth after years of drinking it with no problems.

Thanks. So weird. It was completely gone this morning.
I’ll have to try some other wines. Purely for scientific research of course.
