Hi All,

My daughter suffers from a few food allergies and is due to start reception next september. Can anyone if aware advise what are the allergy management strategies that schools follow to keep children with allergies safe at around an age of 4 or 5.Would some one sit with them during lunch to ensure they don't share food with other Kids ?

Your school may already have procedures in place for lunchtime to manage children with allergies so speak to your daughter’s teacher on the first day.
My dd has just finished reception, the catering company have an online system where we list my child’s allergies and they then put together an allergy free menu. At the beginning of the year she sat with other children with allergies at lunch, or on the end of a table with some space between herself and others, but after a while she asked to sit with her friends. Dd is very aware not to share food and after speaking to her teacher she could sit where she wanted. Her friends also know she can’t have certain foods so will keep their food on their own tray.
If your child’s teacher is not familiar with the procedures at lunchtime make sure she finds out, or speak to whoever is in charge of lunch supervision. It’s really important that you are comfortable with what they have in place.
Also on the first day it’s probably worth bringing a packed lunch unless school dinners have already been sorted out before start if term. Good luck!

Most schools prohibit sharing lunches these days. It’ll be drilled into them from day one.
