Allergies and intolerances

would this be a good idea?

I have suspicions that ds's eczema might be exacerbated by his formula milk. So, after trying (and failing) to find out what formula might be ok to try off the shelf, I think that I might need a dietician's advice etc. Well, considering that I need to wait 2 months to get to see the dermatologist at the hospital for our follow up appointment, I think I want to find out now....

So, could it perhaps be an idea to let him have some cow's milk product and see how his eczema reacts? If it flares, I know there is a problem, if it is the same as usual, then I really AM the neurotic mum that the doctor thinks I am. Or could it be potentially harmful to him?

how old is he?
Could you try a soy based formula?

he is 6 months old.
I don't want to try soy formula as I believe that dc's that are sensitive to cows milk are sensitive to soy; it has high sugar; it has oestrogens that may affect his development

Hi this is my first venture onto Mums net so I hope I am doing this right. I'm interested in you discussion because my son is also 7 months old with severe eczema. Trying yogurt for the first time last week he was very itchy so I discovered dairy might be a problem. The doctor put him onto Soya formula and his skin was great within two days, however - he is terribly constipated! So we're back on the old cow and gate formula with red itchy skin. Is there any alternative like a goats milk formula?

I thought about this, but according to dept of health, the protein in goats milk is very similar to cows milk and likely to be allergenic too?

MumofJ - I might try soya for a week and see if there is a difference, we don't have to do it long term I suppose.
And,If you think its definitely dairy can't you get a formula on prescription?

soya is not only linked to nut allergy but a common allergen in its own right. So you could end up with a longer term problem than eczema.

There are non milk formulas, ask gps if you can try pepti junior.
