Hi, I posted a few weeks ago about trying (unsuccessfully) to reintroduce my DD2 to dairy, by building up scoops of regular formula into her bottles. I’m going to be weaning soon and had intended on starting with rice, as I did with DD1. The dietician has sent a list of commercial products that are dairy free - most of the baby rices are on this list. However, when looking at several packets today, they all say “may contain traces of milk”. Are they just being extra careful by stating this? Would you use it? Thanks in advance! xx

I think the Hipp would be ok

Traces are probably from possible cross contamination.

May contain is fine.

But do not give your baby cow's milk formula!!!
If your dietician advised you to do that they were SO WRONG.

When you EVENTUALLY try reintroducing dairy (not before baby is 9 months at the absolute earliest) you will need to do the milk ladder. Cows milk formula is at the top and you should only give that once your child is tolerating foods lower in the milk ladder. You start at the bottom and work your way up.

If your dietician knows anything they should have told you that.

allergynorthwest.nhs.uk/resources/allergy-leaflets/cows-milk-reintroduction-milk-ladder/ I've find a milk ladder resource. Looks like it starts with tiny amounts of cooked foods containing milk before it even thinks about milk itself

Thanks for all your replies! Wow NameChange30, that’s quite worrying!! I did try and reintroduce under the instruction of a dietician. It was a disaster, poor DD had constant diarrhoea for well over a week. The dietician has since advised that once she’s more established on solids, we’ll try a milk ladder and then in June (when DD will be 9 months), possibly try formula again. x

What you were advised to do is called a milk challenge (one of the only ways to diagnose non-ige cmpa) and not a view to reintroducing dairy.
Most health boards recommended the milk ladder no earlier than 12 months.

Wouldn't bother with baby rice to be honest, and may contains are OK for a lot of cmpa kids but it is really just a case of trial and error.

Good luck, I found it a nightmare at first but DD is 1 now and it's gotten less difficult.

Oh god your dietician is really shit Sad Angry

Trying Cow’s milk formula again when your baby is only 9 months old is a terrible idea. You need to wait until she has been reaction free for 3-6 months and then start the milk ladder. You do it gradually and night progress fast or slow depending whether she reacts. You will only get to Cow’s milk formula when she is ready!

Please look at the link I shared, there are fact sheets on weaning and other useful ones too.

Thanks everyone! Looking forward to/nervous about the weaning process, but will just take it at DD’s pace. This seems to be an ok time for people with dairy intolerances are there are so many alternatives now - or maybe I just notice this more now that I’m experiencing it x
