Could anyone please let me know of any plain soya yogurt with added calcium?? My 9 month old ds is allergic to milk and egg. He is going through a pahse of not drinking much of his special formula (Neocate) so I need to get calcium from different sources. He really likes Alpro soya yogurts but the ones with added calcium have fruits (peach, strawberries) that make his ezcma worse...). So I am looking for plain soya yogurt with added calcium - any suggestions please??

hmmm dont know of any others. Like you we use alpro.

Dont know how he is with things like sesame? if there is any allergy issue? If not it's a fab source of calcium. and in the form of humous quite easy to introduce. Also beans, chickpeas, spinach.

we do have a calcium supplement for dd1 on prescription, so if you're really concerned you could seek advice about that - but she only got that after the age of 3 yrs.

My ds2 was given a calcium supplement on prescription from the age of 1. Does your ds see a dietician? They would be the best source of information on increasing his calcium intake if they won't give him a supplement.

Broccoli has calcium in. My dd liked home made rice pudding made with soya milk. If he dosent like the lumps sainsburys and I think tescos sells flaked rice which makes it less lumpy. Its quicker than make rice pudding in the oven as well you make in a saucepan 2 0z of flaked rice with a pint of what ever milk.

my DS 18 months is also dairy and egg allergic. i live in germany and here Alpro do a natural yoghurt with added calcium, so it may be worth looking around in the uk. have you looked on the alpro website or even on some vegan websites. we bought some vegan cook books as all the recipes would be dairy and egg free, we just dont make any with nuts in just in case.

we have also started giving DS the alpro desserts with added calcium. they are sweet, chocolate flavoured which was a habit i didnt really want to get into but seen as we have not had good care here for his allergies and the dietician was crap we decided that getting calcium into him was the most important thing.

i also use soya milk with added calcium on his cereal so that may be worth a try too. a good book that i found is "feeding your vegan infant" or something like that by the vegan society. it gives all alternative sources for all nutrients and also tells you how much calcium etc is needed at what age. there is calcium in white bread, sesame seeds (houmous, tahini etc) green veg and also dried fruit if he can tolerate them. Dried figs are exceptionally high in calcium.

Alpro also do soya desserts in vanilla and chocolate flavours. Don't know if you want to go there at 9 months though!

They're not chilled and usually found with the long life soya milks.

Thank you all for your advice. I think I may try the vanilla desserts...

The dietitian has now requested a prescription of calcium supplement. I am also starting to think Soya makes his eczma flare up. His allergy test to soya was negative but the dietitian says that it can still affect his eczma....

I have searched for rice desserts as an alternative to soya but can't find any with calcium....

You can get rice and/or oat milk with added calcium in all the major supermarkets now, so you could use that to cook with. Soya milk isn't recommended for use before the age of 2 anyway.

Sardines are another good source of calcium.

I've had no problem getting plain Alpro, but it only comes in big pots.
