Allergies and intolerances

Can an allergy that starts off mildly get worse?

Sorry if this seems a stupid question but I am genuinely in the dark. My dd1 (17) had had eczema since birth and asthma since she was around 2. We have had our cat for 10 years but just recently she seems to have developed an allergic reaction to him. If she sits near him or he is on her bed her eyes start to get puffy and stream, and her chest feels tight. I am concerned about this and don't want her to have him in her room but she says it's fine and she would rather have these symptoms and still get to cuddle the cat!! Could her reactions get more extreme though?

I don't know, but it does sound like it. Can she see the doc for advice or see if anti histamines help. In view of the asthma, I would be a bit concerned.

My allergies have got worse and better and worse again. I'm not sure what the pattern is. Is her asthma well managed?

They can get better or worse.
She can cuddle the cat BUT it would be sensible to do this outside of her bedroom. If she's sleeping in the bed the cat has been on and has a reaction it could be dangerous.

I used to get red eyes and a runny nose when I was near cats. Then I spent a lot of time with cats. Now I just have to sit on a sofa that cats have been on and I get asthma, so in my case yes it did get worse.

Yep, her she is on top of her asthma. Forgot to mention she also gets hay fever!! Poor girl. I agree I think the cat should be kept out of her room.

Is the cat moulting at the moment? Could that make her allergy worse? My mum has a dog and at first I was ok with the dog but recently my allergy has been very bad at times and I wonder if it is when she is moulting that I am bad.
