Wasp allergy?

I was stung by a wasp for the first time a few weeks ago. It hurt like crazy at the time but I didn't have an anaphylaxis type reaction. Now, nearly a month on, the site of the sting is still red and lumpy, and I have been itching all over but particularly at the site of the sting ever since. I have taken Piriton as suggested by my pharmacist but surely that's not a long term thing? Is it normal to still be itchy after a month? Could this be an allergy but not a serious one?

Hi op

With serious allergy (anaphylaxis) the first sting primes the body, it is the second exposure that causes an allergic reaction

That said, I took nearly 6 months to heal from my first sting and went into anaphylactic shock with my second so it may be best to flag it up with your gp

Have you ever reacted to ant bites? I was already allergic to ants and they are related to wasps so venom structure is very similar, if so that could explain your response
