DS16 second big eczema/allergy flare up - any wisdom?

DS16 has just had a second big flare up which has taken 4 trips to the docs, antibiotics and 2 doses of steroids to clear up. He's had to miss nearly 3 weeks off school. All his skin over his whole body becomes sore and itchy, he is ill and he puffs up. Having a shower or putting cream on is agony. The first time, his face and legs puffed up but the second time it was his knees and hands. The doc said that it was one of the worst cases she had seen and that she would admit him to hospital if he had also had a temperature to go with it.

We are not at all sure what triggered the flare ups and I don't know how I could go about finding out what it could be. My only theories are staying at a Travel Lodge (sheets washing in something toxic), new hoodie (warn without washing) and for second flare up a different kind of squash. I don't think they were stress related. He is highly allergic to walnuts and brazil nuts and carries an epi-pen and I think he has an intolerance to oranges which can make him itch.

Any ideas or experience of anything similar?

I realise this was posted a couple of months ago but I've only just come across it. Have you read about Red Skin Syndrome? Doctor said same thing about my daughter and it turned out to be steroid induced eczema, Red Skin Syndrome, flare ups from the steroids prescribed to treat the eczema . Research Topical Steriod Addiction and see what you think.,

you need a referral for further investigation esp with swelling and eczema combined. This will need some expert advice and medication to control as it gets this severe.

is this teen onset?
