I am allergic to nuts and seeds, how do I get my children tested?

I have a life-long allergy to (most) nuts and sesame seeds (along with asthma, eczema, hayfever, rhinitis...)

I have two sons age 4 and 7. My elder son seems fine, but my younger son seems to have an allergic disposition too- he had CMPI as a baby, has eczema and seems to react to plasters. He has not had any further food allergies, however I obviously don't give he boys nuts or seeds and they don't have them at their school. I see research shows they have a 50% chance of having allergies (not sure if this 50% includes eczema).

When Ds1 was about 18 months, I spoke to the doctor about it (this is when I finally got a skin prick test done! I hadn't bothered before because I knew I had the allergies, but the doctor wanted it confirmed). The doctor said that as DS hadn't come into contact with any allergens, there was no point in testing as the result would be negative. This is obviously still the case.

Should I go to the GP and ask if they can be tested (especially Ds2) or is there no point? If so, do I need to take the boys to the initial appointment? Should I just call the surgery and ask? Or is there something else they would do instead of testing such as try them with small amounts at the hospital?

Anyone else experienced this? Help!!

I have a long standing severe nut allergy. Neither of my children were tested as they hadn't come in to contact with allergens and were showing no issues. When one of the DCs developed eczema and really bad hayfever they were tested for a whole host things. They have some allergies in common with mine but not as many or as severe. The tests can be quite distressing as they have to use so many tests.

I am thinking that they are going to have to come into contact with nuts and sesame seeds at some point though. They can't spend their whole lives being paranoid and avoiding things on the off chance.

OP you are spot on and remember none of are allergic until we exposed.Let them live their lives and I say that as an anxious parent.
