My ds suffers from v bad hayfever, it affects his eyes the most making them v v swollen and itchy. Last year and the year before we were using some eye drops ( opticrom, sodium cromoglycate). They helped a bit but at times he was still pretty bad. My gp wasn't very helpful, just said use 4 times a day which i did at random times depending how bad he was and not at all when not suffering. I have just heard that i should start using them before it starts and continue even when he is o'k as they are preventative. Can anyone give me any info about this or let me know how they have dealt with this. thanks.

My ds uses sodium chromoglycate for hayfever too. He was hit in the eye last year with a rounders ball and the nurse at the clinic said that they should be used over the hayfever season even if the eyes aren't puffy as they are preventative and the effect needs to build up.

Luckymum, has your ds started using the eyedrops yet? and do you find any of the antihistamines work? we don't seem to have much luck with any of them

Linzoid - we haven't started yet this year. Ds2 usually starts to suffer in mid May. He started when he was about 8 (he's almost 13 now)and we've tried loads of different stuff. Along with the drops he has Beclomethasone nasal spray, and currently loratadine syrup (clarityn) and sudafed. This has been about the best combination so far. His eyes are the worst, when he gets up in the mornings they're just like two slits, poor lad
