really worried - cows milk allergy??

Hello all! so my ds is 11 weeks old and I have expressed since he was a few days old as he cant breast feed due to his tongue tie and he was really sick on formula for his first 2 days of life. I have tried him 4 times now on formula - Hipp organic and sma lactose free which was advised by the hv. Every time I have tried him with formula he has been violently sick even with the lactose free formula. I gave him just 90ml of the lactose free formula today and hes been really sick twice since, it seems to pump out of him and hes really lethargic and pale after wards. I have talked to the doctor a few times but she just seems to dismiss it but I am really worried I just dont know how to get the doctor to take me seriously :( Does anyone have any advise please? :'(

Can you see a different gp? Ask for a referral to a specialist and get your HV on the case. I understand you really have to persist with your doctor to get their help.

I agree with pushing for a referral.

In the meantime try aptamil pepti. If he isn't sick on this then GP can prescribe while you're waiting for referral.

Where do I get aptamil pepti? I've had a look online and cant find where to buy it? I'm going to see the hv and gp again this week because I am so worried about him :(

You go back to the gp and really really push the point home . If you know the formulas are the link stop trying them and get medical advice .
Weight gain isn't the only indicator that something's wrong but too many hcp see there's no weight issue and dismiss a parents concerns .
In my experience you mustn't wait til its a really big issue .

Any pharmacy has aptamil pepti. It's usually prescription but you can also buy. As your pharmacist.

Sounds just like my daughter who has a cows milk allergy. You should continue to give breast milk and persist with your gp or find someone else. GPs are notoriously uninformed about allergies but you need a referral to a specialist who will help you. If you don't want to continue to BF then you need a proscription for a hypoallergenic formula like nutramigen. It's very expensive so GPs don't like to prescribe unless an allergy is confirmed.

Could you get tongue tie snipped? All my health visitors have recommended aptamil as formula most babies find easiest to digest- incase that helps. ..

If he is sick on dairy free formula in the same way as other formula then maybe thats not the issue? Have you tried gaviscon in case it is reflux?

Yes you need to see if you can have the tongue tie sorted, expressing and sterilising bottles is a pain when you could just be lifting your top and feeding him.

If not possible then you need the GP to refer you to an allergy paediatrician. Nutrimigan ?sp is the one they'll prescribe first as it's cheapest, it's absolutely foul though and your baby will probably reject it so push for the next one up the list. Ideally though your breast milk as that doesn't make him sick and it's only a short time in their life. Both my DC have a cows milk protein allergy, it's hard.
