fab bakin boys have always been nut free. though they were bought over in April 2014 and are introducing nut products in the new year.

I'm fortunate enough to not have experience of food allergies but have an understanding of how they affect people.

I've signed, it's far easier for me to live without nuts in my diet than it is for an allergy sufferer to live with them

You can make the stuff they make for less money and missing that awful synthetic taste too, which is a bonus. Only bought them once as pulled in by the packaging!

Can you not buy a nut free brand, or make your own?

Sassy, it is more a question of having a go-to brand so that when other parents (and schools, brownies, church events - you name it) insist on celebrating everything with 'sugary crap' as you so helpfully put it, you can have your own substitute on hand to give your child, (or diddums, as we like to call DS - how did you know?) and ease the fact that they can't eat the same rubbish as everyone else. Given that children with allergies often experience feelings of social exclusion and anxiety, reliable sugary crap might help to make them feel a little less unusual. Of course there are other brands, but reducing our choice doesn't help and no-one wants to see mothers crying in ASDA because they've run out of jaffa cakes.

Sassy that's very unkind. If you have nothing helpful to say, why are you even on this thread? OP wasn't asking about homemade nut free recipes. If you don't like it there are plenty of other threads to read.

What a disappointment, OP, I am sorry. I have two coeliac DC so I understand how important it is to have trusted brands. Seems so unnecessary as well, to introduce an allergen that they're not using currently.

fab bakin boys were used by many families to keep in school for those times when other parents send in birthday cakes, etc When people know in advance we can bake a safe treat and send it in to school etc. But for times when someone just turns up with cake to celebrate a bday, it is handy to have something safe on hand to give to allergic kids. It is just very sad as they were set up as a nut free company and as they have bn bought over by a dutch firm wish to change the core values of the company.

I'm sad to see this option go for treats in our house too. 1 DC has nut allergy the other doesn't.
Nursery/School won't accept homemade items for birthdays treats and finding shop bought individual nut free items to share for birthdays is getting harder.

That's really disappointing Ukey, maybe because of the rise in allergies a different company can fill their spot in the market. Hope you can find an alternative soon

i doubt they will do well with the introduction of nut products anyway, as their cakes etc don't taste all that great, and most ppl only buy them because they are a safe treat for nut allergies, not because they taste good.

this, a thousand times this. It seems so unnecessary. There are many many options for nut containing cakes that taste better it seems a shame that the go-to option (especially for pre-wrapped stuff to put in swap boxes for school etc) is going.

I'm hoping companies like justlovefoodcompany (nut free celebration cakes) would step up and fill this gap. Does anybody know of any other safe individually wrapped cake brands that are available instead?

Thanks Ukey, that brand seems to have brownies which are individually wrapped which might fill a gap.
Jaffa cake bars seem to be an option too.

Nooo! Having a commercially available, totally reliable, easily identifiable nut free option go is a massive loss!

"Just buy something else" possibly hasn't had to trawl for hours to do a small shop and "just bake it yourself" probably hasn't sent an 18 yo off to uni! Why so nasty?!

I'm pretty gutted actually. You're right though, they are exactly the best tasting option out there
