Hello Smile

I have searched mumsnet for tips and found some useful info but just wondered if there is anything else I could be doing/ preparing.

We are travelling from Yorkshire to mid-west France at the end of July. We are driving down to Dover and taking the ferry on the first day, staying over night in Rouen and then travelling down to the Limoges area (6 hours drive from Rouen).

We are going to be staying with my wonderful pils.

So this is what I'm thinking of doing so far.

getting a car fridge to transport lots of Pure

packing a box full of packet type stuff we use at home - stock cubes, cereal, ketchup, custard powder etc etc

for the journey:

ham sandwiches!!

we will be on the ferry at teatime. Would be great if I could give ds an evening meal of some sort. Wondering if I can bring something in the fridge perhaps they could heat it up in one of the restaurants or cafe, maybe buy some chips to go with it (should I risk it?)

For breakfast I was thinking about fruit/ cereal/ soya milk.

Not sure what to feed him for the next 6 hours (crisps and ham probably...)

Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks so much x

www.ilumiworld.com/ These ready meals can be kept indefinitely (so ideal for travel) and are on offer. Any good?

I am dairy, egg, soya and gluten free as i am bf allergic DD. When we travelled to the south of France this year I froze a pack of Pure and took some UHT coconut milk. The Pure was still cold when we arrived at our destination two days later- i hadnt opened it, it was in a cool bag with freezer packs. So you might not need to buy a car fridge.
Also I found that there was plenty of dairy /egg free stuff in the supermarkets.

I did take some pasta with us so didn't see if there was much of that, but more because I get the GF pasta on prescription due to coeliac DP.

Thanks - great idea - will do that instead then. I am planning to take several tubs of Pure so perhaps their combined frozen-ness will keep them fresh until we arrive.

thanks for calming words too Grin

Do you know if we should be alright with the NHS EH1C card for any medical emergency (anaphylactic episode) or should we get some insurance?

We have travel insurance through the bank account anyway but yes, I think they generally advise travel insurance on top of EHIC.
I would definitely take a packed meal for the journey though- and same on way home, make sandwiches or something, as i found it hard to get food in the aires (services), of course you might fare better as I was trying for dairy, egg and gluten free.
