Allergies and intolerances

Itchy feet and swollen face and lips

Dd1 has just come out with these symptoms, developed over the past couple of days. She can't go to sleep with the itching despite Piriton, and I've noticed is also scratching her hands.

This is all new to me. She was dairy and wheat intolerant as a toot, developed hay fever last summer, but other than that is pretty normal.

I know I am asking an unanswerable question by wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and what the triggers were. I suppose I just need some company in this.

Hello, I have had similar reactions before with swollen face/lips and feet. I think I have narrowed it down to paprika of all things. (and a milder reaction to raw onion). And have had hay fever all my life. Has she eaten anything unusual today?

Last time it happened to me(it was quite severe) I asked at the chemist I was told to have my usual hay fever medicine and see how it goes for a couple of days and see a doctor after that. Luckily it sorted itself out by then. Ooh the itching is horrible I hope your DD is not suffering too much.

Ooh we had paprika on Friday, but I guess it is unlikely to worsen over 3 days from then. We have onion almost daily. She is upset by the itching but has gone back to bed and hasn't resurfaced so I hope the Piriton has kicked in.

I have noticed her swollen lips on occasion in the past and put it down to excessive dairy, but perhaps there is something else. Would an allergy test show it up?

I have to say I am not an expert but I really wish my Mother had thought it was important enough to investigate when I was a child. I feel a bit daft persuing infrequent symptoms I've had for the last two decades. I wonder if you can get a test through your GP?

If not, my friends (a couple) were very impressed with York allergy tests which you can send in a sample from home. Unfortunately they are rather pricey- the full food allergy test is £250!

Sorry I take back what I said about home testing for children. Blush
